أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عَبْدَانَ، أنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ الصَّفَّارُ، ثنا أَبُو زَكَرِيَّا الْحِنَّائِيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ، ثنا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ كُلَيْبٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الْجُوَيْرِيَةِ قَالَ: وَجَدْتُ جَرَّةً خَضْرَاءَ فِي إِمَارَةِ مُعَاوِيَةَ فِي أَرْضِ الْعَدُوِّ، وَعَلَيْنَا رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ بَنِي سُلَيْمٍ يُقَالُ لَهُ: مَعْنُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ، فَأَتَيْتُهُ بِهَا، فَقَسَمَهَا بَيْنَ النَّاسِ، وَأَعْطَانِي مِثْلَ مَا أَعْطَى رَجُلًا مِنْهُمْ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: لَوْلَا أَنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ، وَرَأَيْتُهُ يَفْعَلُهُ، سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: " لَا نَفْلَ إِلَّا بَعْدَ الْخُمُسِ " لَأَعْطَيْتُكَ، وَأَخَذَ يَعْرِضُ عَلَيَّ مِنْ نَصِيبِهِ، فَأَبَيْتُ وَقُلْتُ: مَا أَنَا بِأَحَقَّ بِهِ مِنْكَ..
Abu al-Juwayriyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: During the rule of Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him), I found a green jar in the land of the enemy. Our commander was a man from among the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), from the tribe of Banu Sulaym, called Ma'n bin Yazid (may Allah be pleased with him). I brought it to him, and he divided it among the people and gave me the same as he gave each of them. Then he said: "Had I not heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and seen him do it, that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'There is no nafl (extra award) except after the khumus,' I would have given you (more)." And he began to offer me some of his own share. I refused and said: "I am not more entitled to it than you."
