The Mother of the Believers, Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), says: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) became heavy (with illness) and his (peace and blessings be upon him) pain grew severe, he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked his wives' permission to be nursed in my house, and they gave him (peace and blessings be upon him) permission. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went out supported by two men, and his (peace and blessings be upon him) feet were dragging on the ground. Those (two men) were Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) and another Companion. Ubaydullah says: I informed Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) of this, and he said: "Do you know who the other man was?" I said: No. He said: "He was Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him)." Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) used to relate that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said after entering my house, when his (peace and blessings be upon him) pain had increased: "Pour over me water from seven water-skins whose mouths have not been untied, so that perhaps I may give my instructions to the people." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) was seated in the washing tub of Sayyidah Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her).
Then we began pouring water over him (peace and blessings be upon him) until he (peace and blessings be upon him) began gesturing to us that it was enough; then he (peace and blessings be upon him) went out to the people.
