أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ بْنُ بِشْرَانَ الْعَدْلُ بِبَغْدَادَ، ثنا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ حَمْزَةُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْعَبَّاسِ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ، ثنا قَيْسُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ، ثنا مَسْلَمَةُ بْنُ عَلْقَمَةَ، ثنا دَاوُدُ بْنُ أَبِي هِنْدَ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ، عَنْ سَلَامَةَ الْعِجْلِيِّ، عَنْ سَلْمَانَ الْفَارِسِيِّ قَالَ: أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِجَفْنَةٍ مِنْ خُبْزٍ وَلَحْمٍ، فَقَالَ: " مَا هَذِهِ يَا سَلْمَانُ؟ " قُلْتُ: صَدَقَةٌ، فَلَمْ يَأَكُلْ وَقَالَ لِأَصْحَابِهِ: " كُلُوا "، ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُهُ بِجَفْنَةٍ مِنْ خُبْزٍ وَلَحْمٍ، فَقَالَ: " مَا هَذِهِ يَا سَلْمَانُ؟ " قُلْتُ: هَدِيَّةٌ، فَأَكَلَ، قَالَ: " إِنَّا نَأَكُلُ الْهَدِيَّةَ، وَلَا نَأَكُلُ الصَّدَقَةَ ".
Sayyiduna Salman al-Farisi (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) with a vessel containing bread and relish. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Salman, what is this?" I said: "It is charity." He (peace and blessings be upon him) did not eat, and he said to the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them): "Eat it." Then I brought a vessel of bread and relish, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Salman, what is this?" I said: "It is a gift." He (peace and blessings be upon him) ate it and said: "We eat gifts but we do not eat charity."
