أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا زَكَرِيَّا يَحْيَى بْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ الْعَنْبَرِيَّ يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللهِ الْبُوشَنْجِيَّ يَقُولُ، فِي قَوْلِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " تَهَادُوا تَحَابُّوا ": بِالتَّشْدِيدِ مِنَ الْمَحَبَّةِ، وَإِذَا قَالَ بِالتَّخْفِيفِ، فَإِنَّهُ مِنَ الْمُحَابَاةِ.
Abu Abdullah al-Bushanji said, concerning the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) "Tahadaw tahabbu" ("Give gifts to one another, you will come to love one another"): if it is with a shaddah (tahabbu), it means love (mahabbah), and if it is without the shaddah (tahabu), it means muhabat (showing favour and partiality).
