Bayhaqi 11942 — Encouraging gifts and presents as a bond

It is narrated from Urwah (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "By Allah, O my nephew, we would see the new moon, then the new moon, then the new moon - three new moons in two months - and no fire would be lit in the houses of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." Urwah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I said: "O my aunt, how did you subsist?" She said: "On the two black things: dates and water. However, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had neighbours from the Ansar who had milk animals, and they would send their milk to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he would give us some of it to drink."
