(a) It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) acquired land at Khaybar. He came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! I have acquired land at Khaybar, and I have never acquired anything as dear to me as it. What do you command me regarding it?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If you wish, retain its original property and give its produce in charity." Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) stipulated that it would not be sold, nor gifted, nor inherited, and he gave it in charity to the poor, the needy, the traveller, in the path of Allah and in freeing slaves, and said: "There is no harm on whoever becomes its manager to eat from it in a reasonable manner and to feed (others) from it, without amassing wealth from it." Then he bequeathed it to Sayyidah Hafsah bint Umar (may Allah be pleased with her), then to the elders (the most senior) of the family of Umar.
(b) Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) said in Kitab al-Bahirah: More than one of the family of Umar and the family of Ali informed me that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) managed his charity until he died, and after him he assigned it to Sayyidah Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her); that Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) managed his charity until he died, and after him Hasan bin Ali managed it; and that Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her), the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), managed her charity until she died. And it reached me from more than one of the Ansar that he managed his charity until he died.
(c) It is narrated that Sayyiduna al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) managed his charity until he died, Sayyiduna Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) managed (his) until he died, and Sayyiduna al-Miswar bin Makhramah (may Allah be pleased with him) managed (his) until he died.
