أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، ثنا يُوسُفُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عِيسَى، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ، حَدَّثَنِي هِشَامُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، أَنَّ أَبَا الزُّبَيْرِ حَدَّثَهُ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللهِ يَقُولُ: كُنَّا فِي زَمَانِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَأْخُذُ الْأَرْضَ بِالثُّلُثِ وَالرُّبُعِ بِالْمَاذِيَانَاتِ، فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: " مَنْ كَانَتْ لَهُ أَرْضٌ فَلْيَزْرَعْهَا، وَإِنْ لَمْ يَزْرَعْهَا فَلْيَمْنَحْهَا أَخَاهُ، فَإِنْ لَمْ يَمْنَحْهَا أَخَاهُ فَلْيُمْسِكْهَا " رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ فِي الصَّحِيحِ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عِيسَى.
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: In the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) we used to take land along the banks of the streams for a third or a quarter. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up and said: "Whoever has land should cultivate it; if he cannot do so himself, let him give it to his brother; and if he does not take it either, let him just leave it as it is."
