Abdullah bin al-Sa'ib narrates from his father, and he from his grandfather (may Allah be pleased with them), that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "None of you should take his companion's belongings, neither in jest nor in earnest. When one of you takes his brother's stick, let him return it to him." The wording of one narration is: "None of you should take his brother's belongings, neither in jest nor in earnest. When one of you takes hold of his brother's staff, let him return it to him."
