أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، وَأَبُو سَعِيدِ بْنُ أَبِي عَمْرٍو، وَأَبُو صَادِقِ بْنُ أَبِي الْفَوَارِسِ، قَالُوا: ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عَفَّانَ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ، عَنْ شُعَيْبِ بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ، أَخِي عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ، عَنْ أَخِيهِ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ عَنْ سَالِمٍ، مَوْلَى عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، قَالَ: أَعْطَوْنِي بِفَضْلِ الْمَاءِ مِنْ أَرْضِهِ بِالْوَهْطِ ثَلَاثِينَ أَلْفًا، قَالَ: فَكَتَبْتُ إِلَى عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، فَكَتَبَ إِلِيَّ: " لَا تَبِعْهُ، وَلَكِنْ أَقِمْ قَلْدَكَ ثُمَّ اسْقِ الْأَدْنَى فَالْأَدْنَى؛ فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَنْهَى عَنْ بَيْعِ فَضْلِ الْمَاءِ.
Salim, the freed slave of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him), said: People offered me thirty thousand for the surplus water of his land at al-Waht. So I wrote about this to Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him), and he wrote back to me: Do not sell it; rather, set up your turns of watering, then give water to those nearest to you, and then the next nearest, for I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbidding the sale of surplus water.
