Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: I passed by the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) with a worn-out camel, and I was walking at the rear of the people. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What is the matter with your camel?" I said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! It is worn out. He (peace and blessings be upon him) took hold of its tail and struck it, then said: "Ride." Then I found myself at the very front of the people, and I had to hold it back. When we drew near, I wanted to hurry to my home. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not enter your home at night." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Have you married?" I said: Yes. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "A previously married woman or a virgin?" I said: A previously married woman. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Why not a virgin, who would play with you and joke with you, and you would play with her?" I said: O Messenger of Allah! My father Abdullah left behind daughters, and I did not want to bring them someone just like them, so I intended to marry a sensible woman. He (peace and blessings be upon him) did not tell me whether I had done well or badly. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Sell me your camel." I said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! It is yours. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Sell it to me." I said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! It is yours. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) said it repeatedly, I said: I owe a certain man an uqiyah of gold; buy it in exchange for that. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Ride it to your home." He (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) to give me an uqiyah of gold and to give me extra as well. Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) gave me an uqiyah and a qirat of gold. I said: This qirat, which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave me in addition, will never leave me. I put it in my purse, and it remained with me until the people of Syria took it on the Day of al-Harrah.
