Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) says in (Kitab al-Risalah) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No one should bargain over the bargain of his brother." If this is established; but I have not retained it as established. It is like the hadith in which he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "And none of you should send a marriage proposal over the proposal of his brother." That is when the seller is satisfied and gives permission for it to be sold, before the sale, so that if it were sold it would be binding. He says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sold to the one who offered more, and that is a sale in which a man offers more than his brother, but the seller had not been satisfied with the first price, until he sought more.
The Shaykh says: The hadith about bargaining is established through several chains.
