Sunan ad-Daraqutni 2097 — on zakat al-fitr
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ يُوسُفَ الْمَرْوَذِيُّ ، وَعُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ الدَّقَّاقُ ، قَالا : ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْمُنَادِي ، ثنا أَبُو بَدْرٍ شُجَاعُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الَّذِي كَانَ يَسْكُنُ الْجَزِيرَةَ وَهُوَ سَابِقٌ ، عَنْ عِيَاضِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي سَرْحٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " كُنَّا نُخْرِجُ زَكَاةَ الْفِطْرِ يَوْمَ الْفِطْرِ صَاعَ طَعَامٍ أَوْ صَاعَ تَمْرٍ ، أَوْ صَاعًا مِنْ شَعِيرٍ أَوْ صَاعًا مِنْ زَبِيبٍ ، أَوْ صَاعًا مِنْ أَقِطٍ ، فَلَمْ نزل نُخْرِجُهُ حَتَّى قَدِمَ عَلَيْنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ مِنَ الشَّامِ حَاجًّا أَوْ مُعْتَمِرًا وَهُوَ يَوْمَئِذٍ خَلِيفَةٌ ، فَخَطَبَ النَّاسَ عَلَى مِنْبَرِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَذَكَرَ زَكَاةَ الْفِطْرِ وَقَالَ : إِنِّي لأَرَى مُدَّيْنِ مِنْ سَمْرَاءِ الشَّامِ تَعْدِلُ صَاعًا مِنْ تَمْرٍ ، وَكَانَ ذَلِكَ أَوَّلَ مَا ذَكَرَ النَّاسُ الْمُدَّيْنِ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: On the day of Eid al-Fitr, we used to give Sadaqat al-Fitr, which was one sa’ of grain, or one sa’ of dates, or one sa’ of barley, or one sa’ of raisins, or one sa’ of dried curd. We continued to give it in this manner until Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) came to us from Syria for Hajj or Umrah. At that time, he was the Caliph. He delivered a sermon to the people on the pulpit of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and while mentioning Sadaqat al-Fitr, he said: "I think that two mudd of wheat from Syria are equal to one sa’ of dates." Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) states: At that time, people first began to mention two mudd.
