بَابُ مَنْ يَصْلُحُ أَنْ يَقُومَ خَلْفَ الْإِمَامِ

Sunan ad-Daraqutni 1090 — on who is suitable to stand behind the imam
حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ الدَّقَّاقُ ، نا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ، ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَبْدِ الْغَفَّارِ ، ثنا الأَعْمَشُ ، عَنِ الْمِنْهَالِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو ، عَنْ عَبَّادِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الأَسَدِيِّ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عَلِيًّا رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، يَقُولُ : " إِنَّ مِنَ السُّنَّةِ إِذَا سَلَّمَ الإِمَامُ أَنْ لا يَقُومَ فِي مَوْضِعِهِ الَّذِي صَلَّى فِيهِ فَيُصَلِّي تَطَوُّعًا حَتَّى يَنْحَرِفَ أَوْ يَتَحَوَّلَ أَوْ يَفْصِلَ بِكَلامٍ " .
Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "It is included in the rulings of the Sunnah that when the Imam says the salam (ending the prayer), then the person should not perform the voluntary (nafl) prayers at the same place where he offered the obligatory prayer; rather, he should move a little to one side or engage in some conversation in between, and then perform the voluntary prayers."
