Sunan ad-Darimi 586 — Traveling for Knowledge and Enduring Hardship
أَخْبَرَنَا أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ يُونُسَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: "وُجِدَ أَكْثَرُ حَدِيثِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عِنْدَ هَذَا الْحَيِّ مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ، وَاللَّهِ إِنْ كُنْتُ لَآتِي الرَّجُلَ مِنْهُمْ، فَيُقَالُ: هُوَ نَائِمٌ، فَلَوْ شِئْتُ أَنْ يُوقَظَ لِي، فَأَدَعُهُ حَتَّى يَخْرُجَ لِأَسْتَطِيبَ بِذَلِكَ حَدِيثَهُ".
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: I found most of the hadiths of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in this neighborhood of the Ansar. By Allah, I would go to one of their men and it would be said that he is sleeping. If I wished, he could have been awakened for me, but I would let him sleep until he came out by himself, and in this way I would learn the hadith from him properly.
