Hadith 2900

أَخْبَرَنَا أَخْبَرَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ الرِّشْكُ، قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ سَعِيدَ بْنَ الْمُسَيِّبِ عَنْ رَجُلٍ تَرَكَ امْرَأَتَهُ، وَأَبَوَيْهِ، فَقَالَ: "قَسَّمَهَا زَيْدُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ مِنْ أَرْبَعَةٍ".
Yazid al-Rashk said: I asked Sa'id bin al-Musayyib, may Allah have mercy on him: If a man leaves behind his wife and parents (how will the inheritance be divided?) He said: Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit, may Allah be pleased with him, divided it into four parts.

That is, here the issue will be calculated out of four shares, from which (1/4) one-fourth is for the wife, and from the remaining three shares, one-third (1/3), that is, one share is for the mother, and the remaining two shares, due to being ‘asabah (agnatic heir), will go to the father.
