أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ مُسْهِرٍ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ هُوَ: ابْنُ عُمَرَ بْنِ حَفْصِ بْنِ عَاصِمٍ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ: وُجِدَ فِي بَعْضِ مَغَازِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ امْرَأَةٌ مَقْتُولَةٌ"فَنَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ قَتْلِ النِّسَاءِ وَالصِّبْيَانِ".
Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: In one of the battles of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), a woman was found who had been killed. Upon seeing this, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the killing of women and children.
Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2497)
This is the system of mercy in Islam and the mercy and compassion of the Prophet of Islam, the benefactor of humanity, Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, that he honored women to such an extent that, even when they are on the opposing side, he forbade killing them. Similarly, he forbade the killing of innocent children.
