Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade eating the flesh of every predatory animal with fangs and every predatory bird with talons (i.e., those that hunt with talons, such as hawks, falcons, vultures, etc., and this also includes kites and vultures).

(Commentary on Hadith 2020) From these ahadith, it is understood that those birds which hunt with their talons, or those beasts of prey which tear flesh with their teeth, their consumption is haram (forbidden).
