Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2018)
By "possessing fangs" is meant such teeth with which a predatory animal or bird wounds and tears apart its prey.

(Raz)
Most of the Ahl al-Hadith and the Imams hold the view that every predatory animal possessing fangs (canines), which catches and attacks its prey with its teeth, is forbidden (haram), such as: the wolf, lion, dog, leopard, bear, cat, etc.

And Imam Shafi‘i rahimahullah said: the hyena and the fox are lawful (halal).

Imam Abu Hanifah rahimahullah said: these are also forbidden (haram) like other predatory animals; likewise, the jackal and the wildcat, etc., are also forbidden (haram) (Wahidi).
