أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَكَمُ بْنُ مُوسَى، عَنْ هِقْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ، عَنْ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَ: "إِنَّ اللَّهَ وِتْرٌ يُحِبُّ الْوِتْرَ".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Allah is One (Odd) and He loves odd (numbers)."
Brief Explanation

Allah Ta'ala is Witr; by this is meant that He is unique, singular, and alone without any partner, and He loves singularity. From this, the virtue of witr is understood, but this does not mean that witr is obligatory. This is the position of all the noble Imams except Imam Abu Hanifah rahimahullah.
