أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ سُهَيْلِ بْنِ أَبِي صَالِحٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَ: "مَنْ كَانَ مِنْكُمْ مُصَلِّيًا بَعْدَ الْجُمُعَةِ، فَلْيُصَلِّ بَعْدَهَا أَرْبَعًا" . قَالَ أَبُو مُحَمَّد: أُصَلِّي بَعْدَ الْجُمُعَةِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ أَوْ أَرْبَعًا.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever among you wishes to perform prayer after Jumu'ah should perform four rak‘ahs (Sunnah)." Imam Darimi Abu Muhammad (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I perform two or four rak‘ahs (Sunnah) after Jumu'ah.
Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadiths 1611 to 1614)
That is, according to the statement of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), sometimes I perform four rak‘ahs of Sunnah and according to his action, sometimes two rak‘ahs of Sunnah. Some scholars have said that after Jumu‘ah, performing two rak‘ahs at home and four rak‘ahs in the mosque is Sunnah, and this is more correct.
