Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah 821 — s on the Sutrah for the Praying Person
نَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رَافِعٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى ابْنُ أَيُّوبَ الْغَافِقِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنِي عَمِّي إِيَاسُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ، يَقُولُ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُسَبِّحُ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ ، وَعَائِشَةُ مُعْتَرِضَةٌ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْقِبْلَةِ " . قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ : قَوْلُهُ يُسَبِّحُ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ يُرِيدُ يَتَطَوَّعُ بِالصَّلاةِ
Hazrat Iyas bin Amir narrates that I heard Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) saying that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to offer voluntary prayers at night while Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) would be lying between him (peace be upon him) and the Qiblah. Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says: By "he glorifies at night," what is meant is the voluntary prayer.
