(67) بَابُ ذِكْرِ الصَّلَاةِ كَانَتْ إِلَى بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ قَبْلَ هِجْرَةِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ، إِذِ الْقِبْلَةُ فِي ذَلِكَ الْوَقْتِ بَيْتُ الْمَقْدِسِ لَا الْكَعْبَةُ
Chapter 67: Prayer was towards Jerusalem before the Prophet’s migration, as the qiblah then was Jerusalem, not the Ka‘bah

نا أَبُو مُوسَى مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، نا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الْبَرَاءَ ، يَقُولُ : " صَلَّيْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَحْوَ بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ سِتَّةَ عَشَرَ أَوْ سَبْعَةَ عَشَرَ شَهْرًا ، ثُمَّ صُرِفْنَا نَحْوَ الْكَعْبَةِ "
Hazrat Abu Ishaq says that I heard Sayyiduna Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) saying, he said: We prayed facing Bayt al-Maqdis for sixteen or seventeen months in the company of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), then we were turned towards the Ka'bah.
