حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ ، وَعُتْبَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ , قَالا : أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ خَيْثَمَةَ ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ عَدِيِّ بْنِ حَاتِمٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ ذَكَرَ النَّارَ ، فَتَعَوَّذَ مِنْهَا ، وَأَشَاحَ بِوَجْهِهِ مَرَّتَيْنِ أَوْ ثَلاثًا ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " اتَّقُوا النَّارَ ، وَلَوْ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ ، فَإِنْ لَمْ تَجِدُوا فَبِكَلِمَةٍ طَيِّبَةٍ "
Sayyiduna ‘Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he mentioned the Fire of Hell, then sought Allah’s protection from it, and, expressing aversion to it, turned his blessed face away two or three times. Then he said: “Protect yourselves from the Fire of Hell, even if it be by giving half a date in charity; and if you do not have that, then save yourselves by speaking a good word.”
