Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah 1868 — Nafi’ bin Jubair sent me to Hazrat Sa’ib
نا يُوسُفُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عُمَرُ بْنُ عَطَاءِ بْنِ أَبِي الْخُوَارِ ، أَنَّ نَافِعَ بْنَ جُبَيْرٍ ، أَرْسَلَهُ إِلَى السَّائِبِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ يَسْأَلُهُ عَنْ شَيْءٍ رَآهُ مِنْهُ مُعَاوِيَةُ ، قَالَ : صَلَّيْتُ مَعَهُ فِي الْمَقْصُورَةِ ، فَقُمْتُ لأُصَلِّيَ مَكَانِي ، فَقَالَ لِي : " لا تَصِلْهَا بِصَلاةٍ حَتَّى تَمْضِيَ أَمَامَ ذَلِكَ أَوْ تَتَكَلَّمَ ؛ فَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمَرَ بِذَلِكَ "
Hazrat Umar bin Ata bin Abu al-Khawar narrates that Nafi’ bin Jubair sent me to Hazrat Sa’ib bin Yazid to ask him about the matter which Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) had seen from him. He replied that I performed the Friday prayer with Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) in the mihrab. Then I stood at my place to offer voluntary (nafl) prayer. So he said to me, “Do not join a voluntary prayer with the Friday prayer until you move from that place or speak to someone, because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has commanded this.”
