Sahih Ibn Hibban 5208 — Table Manners – Permissibility of eating
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ زُهَيْرٍ الْحَافِظُ بِتُسْتَرَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْمِقْدَامِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْحُوَيْرِثِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَرَجَ مِنَ الْخَلاءِ ، فَطَعِمَ ، فَقِيلَ لَهُ : قَبْلَ أَنْ تَتَوَضَّأَ ؟ فَقَالَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنِّي أُرِيدُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ ، فَأَتَوَضَّأَ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) came after relieving himself and began to eat food. It was submitted to him, "Are you eating before performing ablution?" The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "Am I about to pray that I should perform ablution?"
