«الطاعون كان عذابا يبعثه الله على من يشاء وإن الله جعله رحمة للمؤمنين فليس من أحد يقع الطاعون فيمكث في بلده صابرا محتسبا يعلم أنه لا يصيبه إلا ما كتب الله له إلا كان له مثل أجر شهيد»
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The plague was a punishment that Allah would send upon whomever He willed, but Allah has made it a mercy for the believers. There is no one in whose town the plague breaks out and who stays there, patient and hoping for reward, knowing that nothing will befall him except what Allah has decreed for him, except that he will have a reward like that of a martyr."
