Hadith 54

And the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, says that when My servant intends to do a good deed, (merely by his intention, as long as he does not act upon it) I write one good deed (in his record of deeds), and when he acts upon that heartfelt intention, I write ten good deeds (in his record of deeds) for him. And when (My servant) intends to commit a bad deed, (merely by his intention to do a bad deed) I forgive him, that is, as long as he does not commit the bad deed, and when he commits (that) deed, I write (only) the like of that evil (just one sin) for him.”

Hadith Commentary:
From this as well, it is established that Allah speaks, and that He reveals speech other than the Qur’an,
as is present in these various ahadith.

Hadith Commentary:
This Qudsi hadith proves that Allah, exalted is He, speaks besides the Noble Qur’an and gives such commands for the guidance of His servants by which their rectification is intended.
These commands are apart from the Noble Qur’an and consist of the speech of Allah, exalted is He.
In this speech, there are words and sound; thus, in this hadith, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) has attributed the statement to Allah, exalted is He.
From this, Imam al-Bukhari rahimahullah has established the above chapter heading.
And Allah knows best.

Benefits and Issues:
When the author, in the chain of transmission, adds (ya‘ni) or (huwa) after a name and mentions a particular name or attribution, this indicates that the author’s teacher did not mention that name or attribution. Rather, the author has done so for the purpose of clarification and specification.
