Hadith 1493
وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو غَسَّانَ الْمِسْمَعِيُّ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، وَابْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، وَاللَّفْظُ لِلْمِسْمَعِيِّ ، وَابْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، قَالُوا : حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذٌ وَهُوَ ابْنُ هِشَامٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ عَزْرَةَ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ، قَالَ : لَمْ يُفَرِّقْ الْمُصْعَبُ بَيْنَ الْمُتَلَاعِنَيْنِ ، قَالَ سَعِيدٌ : فَذُكِرَ ذَلِكَ لِعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ، فَقَالَ : " فَرَّقَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَيْنَ أَخَوَيْ بَنِي الْعَجْلَانِ " .
Sa'id bin Jubair reported that Mus'ab bin Zubair did not effect separation between the Mutala'inain (invokers of curses). Sa'id said: It was mentioned to 'Abdullah bin 'Umar (RA) and he said: Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) effected separation between the two members of Banu al-'Ajlan.

وحَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيل بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ . ح وحَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ أَيْضًا ، حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، كِلَاهُمَا عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ مِثْلَهُ ، وَقَالَا : فَهُوَ أَحَقُّ بِهِ مِنَ الْغُرَمَاءِ .
This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Qatada with the same chain of transmitters (but with a change of these words):" He is more entitled to get it than any other creditor."

حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو غَسَّانَ الْمِسْمَعِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ هِشَامٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ زُرَارَةَ بْنِ أَوْفَى ، عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ " أَنَّ رَجُلًا عَضَّ ذِرَاعَ رَجُلٍ ، فَجَذَبَهُ ، فَسَقَطَتْ ثَنِيَّتُهُ فَرُفِعَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَأَبْطَلَهُ وَقَالَ : أَرَدْتَ أَنْ تَأْكُلَ لَحْمَهُ " .
'Imran bin Husain reported that a person bit the arm of another person; he pulled it out and his foretooth fell down. This matter was taken to Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) , and he turned it down saying: Did you want to eat his flesh?

حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو غَسَّانَ الْمِسْمَعِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ بُدَيْلٍ ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ أَبِي رَبَاحٍ ، عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ يَعْلَى " أَنَّ أَجِيرًا لِيَعْلَى ابْنِ مُنْيَةَ عَضَّ رَجُلٌ ذِرَاعَهُ ، فَجَذَبَهَا فَسَقَطَتْ ثَنِيَّتُهُ ، فَرُفِعَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَأَبْطَلَهَا وَقَالَ : أَرَدْتَ أَنْ تَقْضَمَهَا كَمَا يَقْضَمُ الْفَحْلُ " .
Safwan bin Ya'la reported that a person bit the arm of the servant of Ya'la bin Munya. He pulled it and his foretooth fell. The matter was referred to Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) and he turned it down and said: Did you intend to bite his hand, as the camel bites?

وحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، وَابْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي كِلَاهُمَا ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ ، غَيْرَ أَنَّ فِي حَدِيثِهِمَا الْبِكْرُ يُجْلَدُ ، وَيُنْفَى ، وَالثَّيِّبُ يُجْلَدُ وَيُرْجَمُ لَا يَذْكُرَانِ سَنَةً وَلَا مِائَةً .
This hadith has been reported on the authority of Qatada with the same chain of transmitters except with this variation that the unmarried is to be lashed and exiled, and the married one is to be lashed and stoned. There is neither any mention of one year nor that of one hundred.

حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو غَسَّانَ مَالِكُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَاحِدِ الْمِسْمَعِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ هِشَامٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو قِلَابَةَ ، أَنَّ أَبَا الْمُهَلَّبِ حَدَّثَهُ ، عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ " أَنَّ امْرَأَةً مِنْ جُهَيْنَةَ أَتَتْ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهِيَ حُبْلَى مِنَ الزِّنَا ، فَقَالَتْ : يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ ، أَصَبْتُ حَدًّا فَأَقِمْهُ عَلَيَّ ، فَدَعَا نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَلِيَّهَا ، فَقَالَ : أَحْسِنْ إِلَيْهَا فَإِذَا وَضَعَتْ فَأْتِنِي بِهَا ، فَفَعَلَ فَأَمَرَ بِهَا نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَشُكَّتْ عَلَيْهَا ثِيَابُهَا ثُمَّ أَمَرَ بِهَا ، فَرُجِمَتْ ثُمَّ صَلَّى عَلَيْهَا ، فَقَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ : تُصَلِّي عَلَيْهَا يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ وَقَدْ زَنَتْ ، فَقَالَ : لَقَدْ تَابَتْ تَوْبَةً لَوْ قُسِمَتْ بَيْنَ سَبْعِينَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ لَوَسِعَتْهُمْ ، وَهَلْ وَجَدْتَ تَوْبَةً أَفْضَلَ مِنْ أَنْ جَادَتْ بِنَفْسِهَا لِلَّهِ تَعَالَى ؟ " ،
Imran bin Husain reported that a woman from Juhaina came to Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) and she had become pregnant because of adultery. She said: Allah's Apostle, I have done something for which (prescribed punishment) must be imposed upon me, so impose that. Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) called her master and said: Treat her well, and when she delivers bring her to me. He did accordingly. Then Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) pronounced judgment about her and her clothes were tied around her and then he commanded and she was stoned to death. He then prayed over her (dead body). Umar said to him: Allah's Apostle, you offer prayer for her, whereas she had committed adultery! Thereupon he said: She has made such a repentance that if it were to be divided among seventy men of Madinah, it would be enough. Have you found any repentance better than this that she sacrficed her life for Allah, the Majestic?

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ " أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جَلَدَ فِي الْخَمْرِ بِالْجَرِيدِ وَالنِّعَالِ ثُمَّ جَلَدَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ أَرْبَعِينَ " ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ عُمَرُ وَدَنَا النَّاسُ مِنَ الرِّيفِ وَالْقُرَى ، قَالَ : " مَا تَرَوْنَ فِي جَلْدِ الْخَمْرِ ؟ " ، فَقَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفٍ : أَرَى أَنْ تَجْعَلَهَا كَأَخَفِّ الْحُدُودِ ، قَالَ : فَجَلَدَ عُمَرُ ثَمَانِينَ ،
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported that Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) gave a beating with palm branches and shoes, and that Abu Bakr (RA) gave forty lashes. When Umar (became the Commander of the Faithful) and the people went near to pastures and towns, he said (to the Companions of the Holy Prophet). What is your opinion about lashing for drinking? Thereupon Abdul Rahman bin Auf said: My opinion is that you fix it as the mildest punishment. Then 'Umar inflicted eighty stripes.

وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو غَسَّانَ الْمِسْمَعِيُّ ، وَإِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ أَخْبَرَنَا ، وقَالَ الْآخَرَانِ حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْمَلِيحِ : أَنَّ عُبَيْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ زِيَادٍ دَخَلَ عَلَى مَعْقِلِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ فِي مَرَضِهِ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ مَعْقِلٌ : " إِنِّي مُحَدِّثُكَ بِحَدِيثٍ لَوْلَا أَنِّي فِي الْمَوْتِ لَمْ أُحَدِّثْكَ بِهِ ، سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : مَا مِنْ أَمِيرٍ يَلِي أَمْرَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ ثُمَّ لَا يَجْهَدُ لَهُمْ وَيَنْصَحُ ، إِلَّا لَمْ يَدْخُلْ مَعَهُمُ الْجَنَّةَ " ،
It has been narrated on the authority of Abu Malik that Ubaidullah bin Ziyad visited Ma'qil bin Yaser in the latter's illness. Ma'qil said to him: I am narrating to you a tradition. If I were not at death's door, I would not narrate it to you. I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: A ruler who, having obtained control over the affairs of the Muslims, does not strive for their betterment and does not serve them sincerely shall not enter Paradise with them.

وحَدَّثَنِي أَبُو غَسَّانَ الْمِسْمَعِيُّ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ جميعا ، عَنْ مُعَاذٍ وَاللَّفْظُ لِأَبِي غَسَّانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذٌ وَهُوَ ابْنُ هِشَامٍ الدَّسْتَوَائِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ ، عَنْ ضَبَّةَ بْنِ مِحْصَنٍ الْعَنَزِيِّ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " إِنَّهُ يُسْتَعْمَلُ عَلَيْكُمْ أُمَرَاءُ فَتَعْرِفُونَ وَتُنْكِرُونَ ، فَمَنْ كَرِهَ فَقَدْ بَرِئَ ، وَمَنْ أَنْكَرَ فَقَدْ سَلِمَ ، وَلَكِنْ مَنْ رَضِيَ وَتَابَعَ ، قَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَلَا نُقَاتِلُهُمْ ، قَالَ : لَا مَا صَلَّوْا ، أَيْ مَنْ كَرِهَ بِقَلْبِهِ وَأَنْكَرَ بِقَلْبِهِ " ،
It has been narrated (through a different chain of tmnamitters) on the authority of Umm Salamah (wife of the Holy Prophet) that he said: Amirs will be appointed over you, and you will find them doing good as well as bad deeds. One who hates their bad deeds is absolved from blame. One who disapproves of their bad deeds is (also) safe (so far as Divine wrath is concerned). But one who approves of their bad deeds and imitates them (is doomed). People asked: Messenger of Allah, shouldn't we fight against them? He replied: No, as long as they say their prayer. (" Hating and disapproving" refers to liking and disliking from the heart.)

وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو غَسَّانَ الْمِسْمَعِيُّ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، وَابْنُ بَشَّار ٍ ، قَالُوا : أَخْبَرَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : إِنِّي لَأَسْقِي أَبَا طَلْحَةَ ، وَأَبَا دُجَانَةَ ، وَسُهَيْلَ بْنَ بَيْضَاء مِنْ مَزَادَةٍ فِيهَا خَلِيطُ بُسْرٍ وَتَمْرٍ بِنَحْوِ حَدِيثِ سَعِيدٍ .
Anas bin Malik (RA) said: I was serving wine to Abu Talha, Abu Dujana, and Suhail bin Baida' from a waterskin which contained the mixture of unripe dates and fresh dates. The rest of the hadith is the same.

This hadith has been reported on the authority of Qatada with the same chain of transmitters that Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) forbade (the preparation of) Nabidh, the rest of the hadith is the same.

This hadith has been reported on the authority of Qatada but there is no mention of the words of Abu 'Uthman.

حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْقَوَارِيرِيُّ ، وَأَبُو غَسَّانَ الْمِسْمَعِيُّ ، وَزُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، وَإِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، وَابْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ : أَخْبَرَنَا ، وَقَالَ الْآخَرُونَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ عَامِرٍ الشَّعْبِيِّ ، عَنْ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ غَفَلَةَ ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ خَطَبَ بِالْجَابِيَةِ ، فَقَالَ : " نَهَى نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ لُبْسِ الْحَرِيرِ إِلَّا مَوْضِعَ إِصْبَعَيْنِ أَوْ ثَلَاثٍ أَوْ أَرْبَعٍ " .
Suwaid bin Ghafala said: 'Umar addressed us at a place known as Jabiya (Syria) and he said: Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) forbade us the wearing of silk but to the extent of two or three fingers or four fingers.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ يَحْيَي ، حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ ، أَنَّ ابْنَ مَعْدَانَ أَخْبَرَهُ ، أَنَّ جُبَيْرَ بْنَ نُفَيْرٍ أَخْبَرَهُ ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ أَخْبَرَهُ ، قال : رَأَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَيَّ ثَوْبَيْنِ مُعَصْفَرَيْنِ ، فَقَالَ : " إِنَّ هَذِهِ مِنْ ثِيَابِ الْكُفَّارِ فَلَا تَلْبَسْهَا " .
'Abdullah bin 'Amr bin al-As reported: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) saw me wearing two clothes dyed in saffron. whereupon he said: These are the clothes (usually worn by) the non-believers, so do not wear them.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قال : " كَانَ أَحَبَّ الثِّيَابِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْحِبَرَةُ " .
Anas reported that the garment most liked by Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) was the mantle of Yemen.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ : " أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ أَرَادَ أَنْ يَكْتُبَ إِلَى الْعَجَمِ ، فَقِيلَ لَهُ : إِنَّ الْعَجَمَ لَا يَقْبَلُونَ إِلَّا كِتَابًا عَلَيْهِ خَاتَمٌ ، فَاصْطَنَعَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ فِضَّةٍ ، قَالَ : كَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَى بَيَاضِهِ فِي يَدِهِ " .
Anas reported that when Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) decided to write (letters) to non-Arabs (i. e. Persian and Byzantine Emperors) it was said to him that the non-Arabs would not accept a letter but that having a seal over it; so he (the Holy Prophet) got a silver ring made. He (Anas) said: I perceive as if I am looking at its brightness in his hand.

Nadr bin Anas reported that a person came to Ibn 'Abbas and he narrated (the above menlioned hadith) from Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) .

وحَدَّثَنِي أَبُو غَسَّانَ الْمِسْمَعِيُّ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، قالا : أَخْبَرَنَا مُعَاذٌ وَهُوَ ابْنُ هِشَامٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ ، أَنَّ مُعَاوِيَةَ ، قال : ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ إِنَّكُمْ قَدْ أَحْدَثْتُمْ زِيَّ سَوْءٍ ، " وَإِنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَى عَنِ الزُّورِ " ، قَالَ : وَجَاءَ رَجُلٌ بِعَصًا عَلَى رَأْسِهَا خِرْقَةٌ ، قَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ : أَلَا وَهَذَا الزُّورُ ، قَالَ قَتَادَةُ : يَعْنِي مَا يُكَثِّرُ بِهِ النِّسَاءُ أَشْعَارَهُنَّ مِنَ الْخِرَقِ .
Sa'id bin Musayyib reported that Mu'awiyah said one day: Should I narrate to you the evil make-up. Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) forbade cheating. It was during that time that a person came with a staff and there was a cloth on its head, whereupon Mu'awiyah said: Behold, that is cheating. Qatada said: This implies how women artificially increase their hair with the help of rags.

وحَدَّثَنَاه إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، أَخْبَرَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَأَدْرَجَ فِي الْحَدِيثِ ، قَوْلَهُ : وَأَكْرَهُ الْغُلَّ إِلَى تَمَامِ الْكَلَامِ ، وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ : الرُّؤْيَا جُزْءٌ مِنْ سِتَّةٍ وَأَرْبَعِينَ جُزْءًا مِنَ النُّبُوَّةِ .
Muhammad bin Sirin reported from Abu Hurairah (RA) a hadith from Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) and he mentioned in his hadith his words: "I dislike shackles," up to the end of his statement, but he made no mention of this: "A vision is a forty-sixth part of Prophecy."

حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو غَسَّانَ الْمِسْمَعِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ هِشَامٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ : " أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَصْحَابَهُ بِالزَّوْرَاءِ ، قَالَ : وَالزَّوْرَاءُ بِالْمَدِينَةِ عِنْدَ السُّوقِ ، وَالْمَسْجِدِ فِيمَا ثَمَّهْ دَعَا بِقَدَحٍ فِيهِ مَاءٌ ، فَوَضَعَ كَفَّهُ فِيهِ ، فَجَعَلَ يَنْبُعُ مِنْ بَيْنِ أَصَابِعِهِ ، فَتَوَضَّأَ جَمِيعُ أَصْحَابِهِ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : كَمْ كَانُوا يَا أَبَا حَمْزَةَ ؟ قَالَ : كَانُوا زُهَاءَ الثَّلَاثِ مِائَةِ " .
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported that Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) and his Companions were at a place known as az-Zaura' (az-Zaura' is a place in the bazar of Madinah near the mosque) that he called for a vessel containing water. He put his hand in that. And there began to spout (water) between his fingers and all the Companions performed ablution. Qatada, one of the narrators in the chain of narrators, said: Abu Hamza (the kunya of Hadrat Anas bin Malik (RA)), how many people were they? He said: They were about three hundred.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو غَسَّانَ الْمِسْمَعِيُّ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، وَابْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، وَأَلْفَاظُهُمْ مُتَقَارِبَةٌ ، قَالُوا : حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذٌ وَهُوَ ابْنُ هِشَامٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ ، عَنْ مَعْدَانَ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ الْيَعْمَرِيِّ ، عَنْ ثَوْبَانَ ، أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " إِنِّي لَبِعُقْرِ حَوْضِي أَذُودُ النَّاسَ لِأَهْلِ الْيَمَنِ ، أَضْرِبُ بِعَصَايَ حَتَّى يَرْفَضَّ عَلَيْهِمْ ، فَسُئِلَ عَنْ عَرْضِهِ ؟ فَقَالَ : مِنْ مَقَامِي إِلَى عَمَّانَ ، وَسُئِلَ عَنْ شَرَابِهِ ؟ فَقَالَ : أَشَدُّ بَيَاضًا مِنَ اللَّبَنِ ، وَأَحْلَى مِنَ الْعَسَلِ ، يَغُتُّ فِيهِ مِيزَابَانِ يَمُدَّانِهِ مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ ، أَحَدُهُمَا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ وَالْآخَرُ مِنْ وَرِقٍ " .
Thauban reported Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) as saying: I would be pushing back from my Cistern the crowd of people. I would strike away from it (the Cistern) with my staff the people of Yemen until the water (of the Haud) would spout forth upon them. He was asked about its breadth. He said: From this place of mine to 'Amman, and he was asked about the drink and he said: It is whiter than milk and sweeter than honey. There would spout into it two streamlets having their sources in Paradise. The one is from gold and the other is from silver. This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Hisham with the same chain of transmitters and the words are: "I would be on the Day of Resurrection near the bank of the Cistern."

وحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ الْحَسَنِ ، عَنْ حِطَّانَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الرَّقَاشِيِّ ، عَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ ، قَالَ : " كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، إِذَا أُنْزِلَ عَلَيْهِ الْوَحْيُ ، نَكَسَ رَأْسَهُ ، وَنَكَسَ أَصْحَابُهُ رُءُوسَهُمْ ، فَلَمَّا أُتْلِيَ عَنْهُ ، رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ .
'Ubadah bin Samit reported that when wahi descended upon Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) , he lowered his head and so lowered his Companions their heads, and when (this state) was over, he raised his head.

وحَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ الْأُمَوِيُّ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، وَابْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي كِلَاهُمَا ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ زُرَارَةَ بْنِ أَوْفَى ، عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ : خَيْرُ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ الْقَرْنُ الَّذِينَ بُعِثْتُ فِيهِمْ ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ، زَادَ فِي حَدِيثِ أَبِي عَوَانَةَ ، قَالَ : وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ أَذَكَرَ الثَّالِثَ أَمْ لَا بِمِثْلِ حَدِيثِ زَهْدَمٍ ، عَنْ عِمْرَانَ ، وَزَادَ فِي حَدِيثِ هِشَامٍ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ وَيَحْلِفُونَ وَلَا يُسْتَحْلَفُونَ .
This hadith has been narrated on the authority of 'Imran bin Husain through another chain of transmitters (and the words are): The best generation of this Umma is the generation to which I have been sent, then the next one, and there is an addition in the hadith transmitted on the authority of Abu 'Awana (and the words are): And Allah knows best whether he made a mention of the third (generation) or not; the rest of the hadith is the same as transmitted by Zahdam on the authority of 'Imran. And in the hadith transmitted by Hisham on the authority of Qatada there is an addition of these words: They take an oath whereas they are not asked to take.

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْحَنْظَلِيُّ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ : أَخْبَرَنَا ، وقَالَ الْآخَرَانِ : حَدَّثَنَا ، وَاللَّفْظُ لِابْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ، حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ زُرَارَةَ بْنِ أَوْفَى ، عَنْ أُسَيْرِ بْنِ جَابِرٍ ، قَالَ : كَانَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ إِذَا أَتَى عَلَيْهِ أَمْدَادُ أَهْلِ الْيَمَنِ سَأَلَهُمْ ، أَفِيكُمْ أُوَيْسُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ ؟ حَتَّى أَتَى عَلَى أُوَيْسٍ ، فَقَالَ : أَنْتَ أُوَيْسُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ ، قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، قَالَ : مِنْ مُرَادٍ ثُمَّ مِنْ قَرَن ؟ قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، قَالَ : فَكَانَ بِكَ بَرَصٌ ، فَبَرَأْتَ مِنْهُ إِلَّا مَوْضِعَ دِرْهَمٍ ؟ قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، قَال : لَكَ وَالِدَةٌ ؟ قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : يَأْتِي عَلَيْكُمْ أُوَيْسُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ مَعَ أَمْدَادِ أَهْلِ الْيَمَنِ مِنْ مُرَادٍ ثُمَّ مِنْ قَرَنٍ ، كَانَ بِهِ بَرَصٌ ، فَبَرَأَ مِنْهُ إِلَّا مَوْضِعَ دِرْهَمٍ ، لَهُ وَالِدَةٌ هُوَ بِهَا بَرٌّ لَوْ أَقْسَمَ عَلَى اللَّهِ لَأَبَرَّهُ ، فَإِنِ اسْتَطَعْتَ أَنْ يَسْتَغْفِرَ لَكَ ، فَافْعَلْ فَاسْتَغْفِرْ لِي ، فَاسْتَغْفَرَ لَهُ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ : أَيْنَ تُرِيدُ ؟ قَالَ : الْكُوفَةَ ، قَالَ : أَلَا أَكْتُبُ لَكَ إِلَى عَامِلِهَا ؟ قَالَ : أَكُونُ فِي غَبْرَاءِ النَّاسِ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ ، قَالَ : فَلَمَّا كَانَ مِنَ الْعَامِ الْمُقْبِلِ حَجَّ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَشْرَافِهِمْ ، فَوَافَقَ عُمَرَ فَسَأَلَهُ عَنْ أُوَيْسٍ ، قَالَ : تَرَكْتُهُ رَثَّ الْبَيْتِ قَلِيلَ الْمَتَاعِ ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " يَأْتِي عَلَيْكُمْ أُوَيْسُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ مَعَ أَمْدَادِ أَهْلِ الْيَمَنِ مِنْ مُرَادٍ ، ثُمَّ مِنْ قَرَنٍ ، كَانَ بِهِ بَرَصٌ فَبَرَأَ مِنْهُ إِلَّا مَوْضِعَ دِرْهَمٍ ، لَهُ وَالِدَةٌ هُوَ بِهَا بَرٌّ لَوْ أَقْسَمَ عَلَى اللَّهِ لَأَبَرَّهُ ، فَإِنِ اسْتَطَعْتَ أَنْ يَسْتَغْفِرَ لَكَ فَافْعَلْ ، فَأَتَى أُوَيْسًا ، فَقَالَ : اسْتَغْفِرْ لِي ، قَالَ : أَنْتَ أَحْدَثُ عَهْدًا بِسَفَرٍ صَالِحٍ ، فَاسْتَغْفِرْ لِي ، قَالَ : اسْتَغْفِرْ لِي ، قَالَ : أَنْتَ أَحْدَثُ عَهْدًا بِسَفَرٍ صَالِحٍ فَاسْتَغْفِرْ لِي ، قَالَ : لَقِيتَ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، فَاسْتَغْفَرَ لَهُ فَفَطِنَ لَهُ النَّاسُ ، فَانْطَلَقَ عَلَى وَجْهِهِ ، قَالَ : أُسَيْرٌ وَكَسَوْتُهُ بُرْدَةً ، فَكَانَ كُلَّمَا رَآهُ إِنْسَانٌ ، قَالَ : مِنْ أَيْنَ لِأُوَيْسٍ هَذِهِ الْبُرْدَةُ " .
Usair bin Jabir reported that when people from Yemen came to help (the Muslim army at the time of jihad) he asked them: Is there amongst you Uwais bin 'Amir? (He continued finding him out) until he met Uwais. He said: Are you Uwais bin , Amir? He said: Yes. He said: Are you from the tribe of Qaran? He said: Yes. He (Hadrat) 'Umar (again) said: Did you suffer from leprosy and then you were cured from it but for the space of a dirham? He said: Yes. He ('Umar) said: Is your mother (living)? He said: Yes. He ('Umar) said: I heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) say: There would come to you Uwais bin Amir with the reinforcement from the people of Yemen. (He would be) from Qaran, (the branch) of Murid. He had been suffering from leprosy from which he was cured but for a spot of a dirham. His treatment with his mother would have been excellent. If he were to take an oath in the name of Allah, He would honour that. And if it is possible for you, then do ask him to beg forgiveness for you (from your Lord). So he (Uwais) begged forgiveness for him. Umar said: Where do you intend to go? He said: To Kufa. He ('Umar) said: Let me write a letter for you to its governor, whereupon he (Uwais) said: I love to live amongst the poor people. When it was the next year, a person from among the elite (of Kufa) performed Hajj and he met Umar. He asked him about Uwais. He said: I left him in a state with meagre means of sustenance. (Thereupon) Umar said: I heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: There would come to you Uwais bin 'Amir, of Qaran, a branch (of the tribe) of Murid, along with the reinforcement of the people of Yemen. He had been suffering from leprosy which would have been cured but for the space of a dirham. His treatment with his mother would have been very kind. If he would take an oath in the name of Allah (for something) He would honour it. Ask him to beg forgiveness for you (from Allah) in case it is possible for you. So he came to Uwais and said.: Beg forgiveness (from Allah) for me. He (Uwais) said: You have just come from a sacred journey (Hajj) ; you, therefore, ask forgiveness for me. He (the person who had performed Hajj) said: Ask forgiveness for me (from Allah). He (Uwais again) said: You have just come from the sacred journey, so you ask forgiveness for me. (Uwais further) said: Did you meet Umar? He said: Yes. He (Uwais) then begged forgiveness for him (from Allah). So the people came to know about (the status of religious piety) of Uwais. He went away (from that place). Usair said: His clothing consisted of a mantle, and whosoever saw him said: From where did Uwais get this mantle?

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، وَابْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، وَعُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ وَاللَّفْظُ لِابْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، قَالُوا : حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ ، عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، كَانَ يَقُولُ عِنْدَ الْكَرْبِ : " لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ الْعَظِيمُ الْحَلِيمُ ، لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ ، لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ رَبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَرَبُّ الْأَرْضِ وَرَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْكَرِيمِ " ،
Ibn 'Abbas reported that Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) used to supplicate during the time of trouble (in these words): "There is no god but Allah, the Great, the Tolerant, there is no god but Allah, the Lord of the Magnificent Throne There is no god but Allah, the Lord of the Heaven and the earth, the Lord of the Edifying Throne."

Hadith 2766
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ وَاللَّفْظُ لِابْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الصِّدِّيقِ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ ، أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " كَانَ فِيمَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ رَجُلٌ قَتَلَ تِسْعَةً وَتِسْعِينَ نَفْسًا ، فَسَأَلَ عَنْ أَعْلَمِ أَهْلِ الْأَرْضِ ، فَدُلَّ عَلَى رَاهِبٍ فَأَتَاهُ ، فَقَالَ : إِنَّهُ قَتَلَ تِسْعَةً وَتِسْعِينَ نَفْسًا ، فَهَلْ لَهُ مِنْ تَوْبَةٍ ؟ ، فَقَالَ : لَا ، فَقَتَلَهُ ، فَكَمَّلَ بِهِ مِائَةً ، ثُمَّ سَأَلَ عَنْ أَعْلَمِ أَهْلِ الْأَرْضِ ، فَدُلَّ عَلَى رَجُلٍ عَالِمٍ ، فَقَالَ : إِنَّهُ قَتَلَ مِائَةَ نَفْسٍ ، فَهَلْ لَهُ مِنْ تَوْبَةٍ ؟ ، فَقَالَ : نَعَمْ ، وَمَنْ يَحُولُ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ التَّوْبَةِ انْطَلِقْ إِلَى أَرْضِ كَذَا وَكَذَا ، فَإِنَّ بِهَا أُنَاسًا يَعْبُدُونَ اللَّهَ فَاعْبُدِ اللَّهَ مَعَهُمْ ، وَلَا تَرْجِعْ إِلَى أَرْضِكَ فَإِنَّهَا أَرْضُ سَوْءٍ ، فَانْطَلَقَ حَتَّى إِذَا نَصَفَ الطَّرِيقَ أَتَاهُ الْمَوْتُ ، فَاخْتَصَمَتْ فِيهِ مَلَائِكَةُ الرَّحْمَةِ وَمَلَائِكَةُ الْعَذَابِ ، فَقَالَتْ مَلَائِكَةُ الرَّحْمَةِ : جَاءَ تَائِبًا مُقْبِلًا بِقَلْبِهِ إِلَى اللَّهِ ، وَقَالَتْ مَلَائِكَةُ الْعَذَابِ : إِنَّهُ لَمْ يَعْمَلْ خَيْرًا قَطُّ ، فَأَتَاهُمْ مَلَكٌ فِي صُورَةِ آدَمِيٍّ ، فَجَعَلُوهُ بَيْنَهُمْ ، فَقَالَ : قِيسُوا مَا بَيْنَ الْأَرْضَيْنِ ، فَإِلَى أَيَّتِهِمَا كَانَ أَدْنَى فَهُوَ لَهُ ، فَقَاسُوهُ فَوَجَدُوهُ أَدْنَى إِلَى الْأَرْضِ الَّتِي أَرَادَ ، فَقَبَضَتْهُ مَلَائِكَةُ الرَّحْمَةِ " ، قَالَ قَتَادَةُ : فَقَالَ الْحَسَنُ : ذُكِرَ لَنَا أَنَّهُ لَمَّا أَتَاهُ الْمَوْتُ نَأَى بِصَدْرِهِ .
Abu Sa'id al-Khudri reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: There was a person before you who had killed ninety-nine persons and then made an inquiry about the learned persons of the world (who could show him the way to salvation). He was directed to a monk. He came to him and told him that he had killed ninety-nine persons and asked him whether there was any scope for his repentance to be accepted. He said: No. He killed him also and thus completed one hundred. He then asked about the learned persons of the earth and he was directed to a scholar, and he told him that he had killed one hundred persons and asked him whether there was any scope for his repentance to be accepted. He said: Yes; what stands between you and the repentance? You better go to such and such land; there are people devoted to prayer and worship and you also worship along with them and do not come to the land of yours since it was an evil land (for you). So he went away and he had hardly covered half the distance when death came to him and there was a dispute between the angels of mercy and the angels of punishment. The angels of mercy said: This man has come as a penitant and remorseful to Allah and the angels of punishment said: He has done no good at all. Then there came another angel in the form of a human being in order to decide between them. He said: You measure the land to which he has drawn near. They measured it and found him nearer to the land where he intended to go (the land of piety), and so the angels of mercy took possession of it. Qatada said that Hasan told him that it was said to them that as death approached him, he crawled upon his chest (and managed) to slip in the land of mercy.

حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْقَوَارِيرِيُّ ، وَإِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، وَابْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ : أَخْبَرَنَا ، وقَالَ الْآخَرُونَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " يُقَالُ لِلْكَافِرِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ ، أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ كَانَ لَكَ مِلْءُ الْأَرْضِ ذَهَبًا أَكُنْتَ تَفْتَدِي بِهِ ، فَيَقُولُ : نَعَمْ ، فَيُقَالُ لَهُ : قَدْ سُئِلْتَ أَيْسَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ " ،
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: It would be said to the non-believers on the Day of Resurrection: If you were to possess gold, filling the whole earth, would you like to secure your freedom by paying that? He would say: Yes. Thereupon it would be said to him: Something easier (than this) was demanded from you (but you paid no heed to it).

حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو غَسَّانَ الْمِسْمَعِيُّ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ وَاللَّفْظُ لِأَبِي غَسَّانَ ، وَابْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ مُطَرِّفِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الشِّخِّيرِ ، عَنْ عِيَاضِ بْنِ حِمَارٍ الْمُجَاشِعِيِّ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ فِي خُطْبَتِهِ : " أَلَا إِنَّ رَبِّي أَمَرَنِي أَنْ أُعَلِّمَكُمْ مَا جَهِلْتُمْ مِمَّا عَلَّمَنِي يَوْمِي هَذَا ، كُلُّ مَالٍ نَحَلْتُهُ عَبْدًا حَلَالٌ ، وَإِنِّي خَلَقْتُ عِبَادِي حُنَفَاءَ كُلَّهُمْ وَإِنَّهُمْ أَتَتْهُمُ الشَّيَاطِينُ ، فَاجْتَالَتْهُمْ عَنْ دِينِهِمْ وَحَرَّمَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ مَا أَحْلَلْتُ لَهُمْ ، وَأَمَرَتْهُمْ أَنْ يُشْرِكُوا بِي مَا لَمْ أُنْزِلْ بِهِ سُلْطَانًا ، وَإِنَّ اللَّهَ نَظَرَ إِلَى أَهْلِ الْأَرْضِ ، فَمَقَتَهُمْ عَرَبَهُمْ وَعَجَمَهُمْ ، إِلَّا بَقَايَا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ ، وَقَالَ : إِنَّمَا بَعَثْتُكَ لِأَبْتَلِيَكَ وَأَبْتَلِيَ بِكَ ، وَأَنْزَلْتُ عَلَيْكَ كِتَابًا لَا يَغْسِلُهُ الْمَاءُ تَقْرَؤُهُ نَائِمًا وَيَقْظَانَ ، وَإِنَّ اللَّهَ أَمَرَنِي أَنْ أُحَرِّقَ قُرَيْشًا ، فَقُلْتُ : رَبِّ إِذًا يَثْلَغُوا رَأْسِي فَيَدَعُوهُ خُبْزَةً ، قَالَ : اسْتَخْرِجْهُمْ كَمَا اسْتَخْرَجُوكَ ، وَاغْزُهُمْ نُغْزِكَ وَأَنْفِقْ فَسَنُنْفِقَ عَلَيْكَ ، وَابْعَثْ جَيْشًا نَبْعَثْ خَمْسَةً مِثْلَهُ ، وَقَاتِلْ بِمَنْ أَطَاعَكَ مَنْ عَصَاكَ ، قَالَ : وَأَهْلُ الْجَنَّةِ ثَلَاثَةٌ ذُو سُلْطَانٍ : مُقْسِطٌ ، مُتَصَدِّقٌ ، مُوَفَّقٌ ، وَرَجُلٌ رَحِيمٌ رَقِيقُ الْقَلْبِ لِكُلِّ ذِي قُرْبَى وَمُسْلِمٍ ، وَعَفِيفٌ مُتَعَفِّفٌ ذُو عِيَالٍ ، قَالَ : وَأَهْلُ النَّارِ خَمْسَةٌ : الضَّعِيفُ الَّذِي لَا زَبْرَ لَهُ الَّذِينَ هُمْ فِيكُمْ ، تَبَعًا لَا يَبْتَغُونَ أَهْلًا وَلَا مَالًا وَالْخَائِنُ الَّذِي لَا يَخْفَى لَهُ طَمَعٌ ، وَإِنْ دَقَّ إِلَّا خَانَهُ وَرَجُلٌ لَا يُصْبِحُ وَلَا يُمْسِي إِلَّا وَهُوَ يُخَادِعُكَ عَنْ أَهْلِكَ وَمَالِكَ ، وَذَكَرَ الْبُخْلَ أَوِ الْكَذِبَ وَالشِّنْظِيرُ الْفَحَّاشُ " ، وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ أَبُو غَسَّانَ فِي حَدِيثِهِ وَأَنْفِقْ فَسَنُنْفِقَ عَلَيْكَ ،
'Iyad bin Him-ar reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) , while delivering a sermon one day, said: Behold, my Lord commanded me that I should teach you which you do not know and which He has taught me today. (He has instructed thus): The property which I have conferred upon them is lawful for them. I have created My servants as one having a natural inclination to the worship of Allah but it is Satan who turns them away from the right religion and he makes unlawful what has been declared lawful for them and he commands them to ascribe partnership with Re, although he has no justification for that. And verily, Allah looked towards the people of the world and He showed hatred for the Arabs and the non-Arabs, but with the exception of some remnants from the People of the Book. And He (further) said: I have sent thee (the Holy Prophet) in order to put you to test and put (those to test) through you. And I sent the Book to you which cannot be washed away by water, so that you may recite it while in the state of wakefulness or sleep. Verily, Allah commanded me to burn (kill) the Quraish. I said: My Lord, they would break my head (like the tearing) of bread, and Allah said: You turn them out as they turned you out, you fight against them and We shall help you in this, you should spend and you would be conferred upon. You send an army and I would send an army five times greater than that. Fight against those who disobey you along with those who obey you. The inmates of Paradise are three: One who wields authority and is just and fair, one who Is truthful and has been endowed with power to do good deeds. And the person who is merciful and kind hearted towards his relatives and to every pious Muslim, and one who does not stretch his hand in spite of having a large family to support. And He said: The inmates of Hell are five: the weak who lack power to (avoid evil), the (carefree) who pursue (everything irrespective of the fact that it is good or evil) and who do not have any care for their family or for their wealth. And those dishonest whose greed cannot be concealed even in the case of minor things. And the third. who betray you. morning and evening, in regard to your family and your property. He also made a mention of the miser and the liar and those who are in the habit of abusing people and using obscene and foul language. Abu Ghassan in his narration did not make mention of" Spend and there would be spent for you."

وحَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، وَإِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، وَابْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ : أَخْبَرَنَا ، وقَالَ الْآخَرُونَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي أَسْمَاءَ الرَّحَبِيِّ ، عَنْ ثَوْبَانَ أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : إِنَّ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى زَوَى لِي الْأَرْضَ حَتَّى رَأَيْتُ مَشَارِقَهَا وَمَغَارِبَهَا وَأَعْطَانِي الْكَنْزَيْنِ الْأَحْمَرَ وَالْأَبْيَضَ ، ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ نَحْوَ حَدِيثِ أَيُّوبَ ، عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ .
Thauban reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said. Verily, Allah drew the ends of the world near me until I saw its east and west and He bestowed upon me two treasures, the red and the white. The rest of the hadith is the same.

حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، وَابْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، وَاللَّفْظُ لِابْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ ، أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " الدَّجَّالُ مَكْتُوبٌ بَيْنَ عَيْنَيْهِ ك ف ر أَيْ كَافِرٌ " .
Anas b. Malik reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: There would be written three letters k. f. r., i. e. Kafir, between the eyes of the Dajjal.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، وَابْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ وَقَالَا جَمِيعًا حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي كُلُّهُمْ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : انْتَهَيْتُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَذَكَرَ بِمِثْلِ حَدِيثِ هَمَّامٍ .
Mutarrif reported on the authority of his father: I went to Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) . The rest of the hadith is the same.
