Hadith 795
وحَدَّثَنَا
ابْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ،
وَابْنُ بَشَّارٍ وَاللَّفْظُ لِابْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا
مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا
شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ
أَبِي إِسْحَاق ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ
الْبَرَاءَ ، يَقُولُ : " قَرَأَ رَجُلٌ الْكَهْفَ ، وَفِي الدَّارِ دَابَّةٌ فَجَعَلَتْ تَنْفِرُ ، فَنَظَرَ ، فَإِذَا ضَبَابَةٌ أَوْ سَحَابَةٌ قَدْ غَشِيَتْهُ ، قَالَ : فَذَكَرَ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : " اقْرَأْ فُلَانُ ، فَإِنَّهَا السَّكِينَةُ تَنَزَّلَتْ عِنْدَ الْقُرْآنِ أَوْ تَنَزَّلَتْ لِلْقُرْآنِ " .
Ibn Ishaq reported: I heard al-Bara' as saying that a man recited al-Kahf when an animal was there in the house and it began to take fright. And as he looked around, he found a cloud overshadowing it. He mentioned that to the Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) . Upon this he said: O so and so, recite on (the surah) as- Sakina descends at the (recitation of the Qur'an) or on account (of the recitation) of the Qur'an.
Hadith 799
Anas reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying to Ubayy bin Ka'b: Aliah has commanded me to recite to you:" Those who disbelieve were not..." (al-Qur'an, xcviii. 1). He said: Did He mention me by name? He (the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) said): Yes. Upon this he shed tears (of gratitude).
Hadith 807
This hadith has been narrated by Mansur with the same chain of transmitters.
Hadith 809
This hadith has been transmitted by Qatada with the same chain of transmitters. But Shu'bah (one of the narrators) said: At the end of Surah al-Kahf, but Hammam said: At the beginning of Surah al-Kahf.
Hadith 811
Abu Darda' reported Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) as saying: Is any one of you incapable of reciting a third of the Qur'an in a night? They (the Companions) asked: How could one recite a third of the Qur'an (in a night)? Upon this he (the Holy Prophet) said:" He is Allah, One" (Qur'An. cxii.) is equivalent to a third of the Qur'an.

أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، كَانَ عِنْدَ أَضَاةِ بَنِي غِفَارٍ ، قَالَ : " فَأَتَاهُ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام ، فَقَالَ : " إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَأْمُرُكَ ، أَنْ تَقْرَأَ أُمَّتُكَ الْقُرْآنَ عَلَى حَرْفٍ ، فَقَالَ : أَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ ، مُعَافَاتَهُ ، وَمَغْفِرَتَهُ ، وَإِنَّ أُمَّتِي لَا تُطِيقُ ذَلِكَ ، ثُمَّ أَتَاهُ الثَّانِيَةَ ، فَقَالَ : إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَأْمُرُكَ ، أَنْ تَقْرَأَ أُمَّتُكَ الْقُرْآنَ عَلَى حَرْفَيْنِ ، فَقَالَ : أَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ ، مُعَافَاتَهُ ، وَمَغْفِرَتَهُ ، وَإِنَّ أُمَّتِي لَا تُطِيقُ ذَلِكَ ، ثُمَّ جَاءَهُ الثَّالِثَةَ ، فَقَالَ : إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَأْمُرُكَ ، أَنْ تَقْرَأَ أُمَّتُكَ الْقُرْآنَ عَلَى ثَلَاثَةِ أَحْرُفٍ ، فَقَالَ : أَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ ، مُعَافَاتَهُ ، وَمَغْفِرَتَهُ ، وَإِنَّ أُمَّتِي لَا تُطِيقُ ذَلِكَ ، ثُمَّ جَاءَهُ الرَّابِعَةَ ، فَقَالَ : إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَأْمُرُكَ ، أَنْ تَقْرَأَ أُمَّتُكَ الْقُرْآنَ عَلَى سَبْعَةِ أَحْرُفٍ ، فَأَيُّمَا حَرْفٍ قَرَءُوا عَلَيْهِ ، فَقَدْ أَصَابُوا " .
Ubayy bin Ka'b reported that the Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) was near the tank of Banu Ghifar that Gabriel (ؑ) came to him and said: Allah has commanded you to recite to your people the Qur'an in one dialect. Upon this he said: I ask from Allah pardon and forgiveness. My people are not capable of doing it. He then came for the second time and said: Allah has commanded you that you should recite the Qur'an to your people in two dialects. Upon this he (the Holy prophet) again said: I seek pardon and forgiveness from Allah, my people would not be able to do so. He ( Gabriel (ؑ)) came for the third time and said: Allah has commanded you to recite the Qur'an to your people in three dialects. Upon this he said: I ask pardon and forgiveness from Allah. My people would not be able to do it. He then came to him for the fourth time and said: Allah has commanded you to recite the Qur'an to your people in seven dialects, and in whichever dialect they would recite, they would be right.
Hadith 822

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا
شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ
عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ
أَبَا وَائِلٍ يُحَدِّثُ ، أَنَّ رَجُلًا جَاءَ إِلَى
ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ، فَقَالَ : إِنِّي قَرَأْتُ الْمُفَصَّلَ اللَّيْلَةَ كُلَّهُ فِي رَكْعَةٍ ، فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ : هَذًّا كَهَذِّا الشِّعْرِ ، فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ : لَقَدْ عَرَفْتُ النَّظَائِرَ الَّتِي كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقْرُنُ بَيْنَهُنَّ ، قَالَ : فَذَكَرَ ، " عِشْرِينَ سُورَةً مِنَ الْمُفَصَّلِ ، سُورَتَيْنِ ، سُورَتَيْنِ فِي كُلِّ رَكْعَةٍ " .
Abu Wa'il reported: A person came to 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud and said: I recited all the mufassal surahs in one rak'ah during the night. 'Abdullah said: You must have recited hastily like the recitation of poetry. 'Abdullah said: I remember well the manner in which the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to combine them, and he then mentioned twenty of the mufassal surahs, and (their combinations in) two in every rak'ah.
Hadith 823
Ishaq is reported to have said on the authority of Aswad who quoted on the authority of 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud that the Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) used to recite these words as (fahal min muddakir).
Hadith 835
Aswad and Masruq reported: We bear testimony to the fact that 'A'isha said: Never was there a day that he (the Holy Prophet) was with me and he did not observe two rak'ahs of prayer in my house, i. e. two rak'ahs after the Asr.
Hadith 864
Ka'b bin 'Ujra reported that he entered the mosque and saw Abdul Rahman bin Umm Hakam delivering the sermon in a sitting posture. Upon this he said: Look at this wretched person; he delivers the sermon while sitting, whereas Allah said:" And when they see merchandise or sport, they break away to it and leave thee standing."
Hadith 873
Umm Hisham bint Haritha b. Nu'man said: Our oven and that of the Messenger of Allah (صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ) was one for two years, or for one year or for a part of a year; and I learnt" Qaf. By the Glorious Qur'an" from no other source than the tongue of Allah's Messenger (صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ) who used to recite it every Friday on the pulpit when he delivered the sermon to the people.
Hadith 875
Jabir bin 'Abdullah said that the Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) delivered the sermon and said: When any one of you comes for the Friday (prayer) and the Imam comes out (from his apartment), (even then) should one observe two rak'ahs (of prayer).

Hadith 884
This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Shu'bah with the same chain of transmitters.
Hadith 900
Ibn 'Abbas reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: I have been helped by the east wind and the 'Ad were destroyed by the west wind.
Hadith 926
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: Endurance is to be shown at the first blow.
Hadith 927
Umar reported Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) as saying: The dead is punished in the grave because of wailing on it.
Hadith 946
Thauban, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: He who offered prayer for the dead, for him is the reward of one 'qirat', and he who attended its burial, he would have two 'qirats' as his reward. And 'qirat' is equivalent to Uhud.
Hadith 946
This hadith has been narrated by Qatada with the same chain of transmitters. And in the hadith transmitted by Sa'id and Hisham, (the words are):" The Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) was asked about 'qirat', and he said: It is equivalent to Uhud."
Hadith 957
It is narrated on the authority of 'Abdul Rahman bin Abu Laila that Zaid used to recite four takbirs on our funerals and he recited five takbirs on one funeral. I asked him the reason (for this variation), to which he replied: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) recited thus.
Hadith 961
It is narrated on the authority of Ibn Abu Laila that while Qais bin Sa'd and Sahl bin Hunaif were both in Qadislyya a bier passed by them and they both stood up. They were told that it was the bier of one of the people of the land (non-Muslim). They said that a bier passed before the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) and he stood up. He was told that he (the dead man) was a Jew. Upon this he remarked: Was he not a human being or did he not have a soul?

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا
شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ
سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ ، عَنْ
جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، قَالَ : صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى ابْنِ الدَّحْدَاحِ ، ثُمَّ أُتِيَ بِفَرَسٍ عُرْيٍ ، فَعَقَلَهُ رَجُلٌ فَرَكِبَهُ ، فَجَعَلَ يَتَوَقَّصُ بِهِ وَنَحْنُ نَتَّبِعُهُ نَسْعَى خَلْفَهُ ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ : إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " كَمْ مِنْ عِذْقٍ مُعَلَّقٍ أَوْ مُدَلًّى فِي الْجَنَّةِ لِابْنِ الدَّحْدَاحِ " ، أَوَ قَالَ شُعْبَةُ : " لِأَبِي الدَّحْدَاحِ " .
Jabir ibn ahadeeth reported that the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) said (funeral) prayer on Ibn Dahdah: then an unsaddled horse was brought to him and a person hobbled it, and he (the Messenger of Allah) (ﷺ) rode upon it and it bounded and we followed it and ran after it. One of the people said that the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) remarked: How many among hanging bunches in the Paradise are meant for Ibn Dahdah?
Hadith 989
This hadith has been narrated by Muhammad bin Isma'il with the same chain of transmitters.

Abu Hurairah (RA) reported the same from the Prophet (ﷺ) .

Hadith 1016
'Adi bin Hatim reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) made a mention of the Fire and sought refuge with Allah against it. He turned aside his face three times and then said: Protect yourselves against Fire even if with half a date. But if you fail to find it (then protect yourselves against Fire) with the help of a pleasant word).
Hadith 1018
This hadith has been narrated by Shu'ba with the same chain of transmitters and in the hadith transmitted by Sa'id b. al Rabi (the words are):" We used to carry loads on our backs."
Hadith 1034
Hakim bin Hizam reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) having said this: The most excellent Sadaqa or the best of Sadaqa is that after giving which the (giver) remains rich and the upper hand is better than the lower hand, and begin from the members of your household.
Hadith 1047
This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Anas through another chain of transmitters.
Hadith 1048
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) as saying this, but I do not know whether this thing was revealed to him or not, but he said no.

قَتَادَةَ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ
أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : جَمَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْأَنْصَارَ ، فَقَالَ : " أَفِيكُمْ أَحَدٌ مِنْ غَيْرِكُمْ ؟ ، فَقَالُوا : لَا إِلَّا ابْنُ أُخْتٍ لَنَا ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : إِنَّ ابْنَ أُخْتِ الْقَوْمِ مِنْهُمْ ، فَقَالَ : إِنَّ قُرَيْشًا حَدِيثُ عَهْدٍ بِجَاهِلِيَّةٍ وَمُصِيبَةٍ ، وَإِنِّي أَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَجْبُرَهُمْ وَأَتَأَلَّفَهُمْ ، أَمَا تَرْضَوْنَ أَنْ يَرْجِعَ النَّاسُ بِالدُّنْيَا ، وَتَرْجِعُونَ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ إِلَى بُيُوتِكُمْ ، لَوْ سَلَكَ النَّاسُ وَادِيًا ، وَسَلَكَ الْأَنْصَارُ شِعْبًا ، لَسَلَكْتُ شِعْبَ الْأَنْصَارِ " .
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) gathered the Ansar and said: Is there someone alien among you? They said: No, but only the son of our sister. Upon this the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: The son of the sister of the people is included among the tribe, and (farther) said: The Quraish have recently abandoned Jahiliya and have just been delivered from distress; I, therefore, intend to help them and conciliate them. Don't you feel happy that the people should return with worldly riches and you return with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) to your houses? (So far as my love for you is concerned I should say) if the people were to tread a valley and the Ansar tread a narrow path (in a mountain) I would tread the narrow path of the Ansar.
Hadith 1069
This very hadith has been narrated on the authority of Sbu'ba with the same chain of transmitters.
Hadith 1071
Anas bin Malik (RA) reported that the Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) found a date and said: Were it not (that I fear) it may be part of sadaqah, I would have eaten it.
Hadith 1075
'A'isha reported that (once) the Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) (may peace be upon him,) was presented with beef. It was said (by someone) that it had been given to Barira as sadaqah. Upon this he (the Prophet) said: It is a sadaqah for her and a gift for us.
Hadith 1080
Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with both of them) reported Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) as saying: We are an unlettered people who can neither write nor count. The month is thus, and thus folding his thumb when he said it the third time.
Hadith 1088
Abu'l-Bakhtari reported: We saw the new moon of Ramadan as we were at Dhit-i-'Irq. We sent a man to Ibn Abbas (RA) (Allah be pleased with both of them) to ask him (whether the sighting of a small moon had something of the nature of defect in it). Upon this Ibn 'Abbas (Allah be pleased with both of them) said that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) had said: Verily Allah deferred its sight, but if (the new moon) is hidden from you, then, complete its number (thirty).
Hadith 1106
'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) said that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to embrace (his wives) while fasting.
Hadith 1106
'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) reported that Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) (peace be upon him) kissed (his wives) while fasting.
Hadith 1115
Jabir bin 'Abdullah (Allah be pleased with both of them) reported that in the course of a journey Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) saw a man, people crowding around him and providing him a shade. Upon this he (the Holy Prophet) said: What is the matter with him? They said: He is a person observing fast. Whereupon the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: It is no righteousness that you fast on journey.
Hadith 1130
This hadith has been narrated by Ibn Bishr with the same chain of transmitters (but with a slight variation) that he (the Holy Prophet) inquired of them (Jews) about it (fasting on the day of 'Ashura).
