Hadith 736
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، " كَانَ يُصَلِّي بِاللَّيْلِ إِحْدَى عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً ، يُوتِرُ مِنْهَا بِوَاحِدَةٍ ، فَإِذَا فَرَغَ مِنْهَا ، اضْطَجَعَ عَلَى شِقِّهِ الأَيْمَنِ ، حَتَّى يَأْتِيَهُ الْمُؤَذِّنُ ، فَيُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْنِ خَفِيفَتَيْنِ " .
'A'isha reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to pray eleven rak'ahs at night, observing the Witr with a single rak'ah, and when he had finished them, he lay down on his right side, till the Mu'adhdhin came to him and he (the Holy Prophet) then observed two short rak'ahs (of Sunan of the dawn prayer).
Hadith 736
وحَدَّثَنِي حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَتْ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، " يُصَلِّي فِيمَا بَيْنَ أَنْ يَفْرُغَ مِنْ صَلَاةِ الْعِشَاءِ ، وَهِيَ الَّتِي يَدْعُو النَّاسُ الْعَتَمَةَ إِلَى الْفَجْرِ إِحْدَى عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً ، يُسَلِّمُ بَيْنَ كُلِّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَيُوتِرُ بِوَاحِدَةٍ ، فَإِذَا سَكَتَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ مِنْ صَلَاةِ الْفَجْرِ ، وَتَبَيَّنَ لَهُ الْفَجْرُ وَجَاءَهُ الْمُؤَذِّنُ ، قَامَ فَرَكَعَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ خَفِيفَتَيْنِ ، ثُمَّ اضْطَجَعَ عَلَى شِقِّهِ الأَيْمَنِ ، حَتَّى يَأْتِيَهُ الْمُؤَذِّنُ لِلإِقَامَةِ " .
'A'isha, the wife of the Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) , said that between the time when the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) finished the 'Isha' prayer which is called 'Atama by the people, he used to pray eleven rak'ahs, uttering the salutation at the end of every two rak'ahs, and observing the Witr with a single one. And when the Mu'adhdhin had finished the call (for the) dawn prayer and he saw the dawn clearly and the Mu'adhdhin had come to him, he stood up and prayed two short rak'ahs. Then he lay down on his right side till the Mu'adhdhin came to him for lqama.
Hadith 737
وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ نُمَيْرٍ . ح ، وحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، " يُصَلِّي مِنَ اللَّيْلِ ثَلَاثَ عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً ، يُوتِرُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ بِخَمْسٍ ، لَا يَجْلِسُ فِي شَيْءٍ إِلَّا فِي آخِرِهَا " .
'A'isha reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to observe thirteen rak'ahs of the night prayer. Five out of them consisted of Witr, and he did not sit, but at the end (for salutation).
Hadith 737
وحَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ ، عَنْ عِرَاكِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ ، أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ أَخْبَرَتْهُ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، " كَانَ يُصَلِّي ثَلَاثَ عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً بِرَكْعَتَيِ الْفَجْرِ " .
'A'isha reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to pray thirteen rak'ahs during the night including the two rak'ahs (Sunan) of the dawn prayer.
Hadith 744
وحَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ تَمِيمِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، " يُصَلِّي منَ اللَّيْلِ ، فَإِذَا أَوْتَرَ ، قَالَ : قُومِي فَأَوْتِرِي يَا عَائِشَةُ " .
'A'isha reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to pray in the night and when he observed Witr, he said to me: O 'A'isha, get up and observe Witr.
Hadith 761
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، " صَلَّى فِي الْمَسْجِدِ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ ، فَصَلَّى بِصَلَاتِهِ نَاسٌ ، ثُمَّ صَلَّى مِنَ الْقَابِلَةِ فَكَثُرَ النَّاسُ ، ثُمَّ اجْتَمَعُوا مِنَ اللَّيْلَةِ الثَّالِثَةِ أَوِ الرَّابِعَةِ ، فَلَمْ يَخْرُجْ إِلَيْهِمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحَ ، قَالَ : قَدْ رَأَيْتُ الَّذِي صَنَعْتُمْ ، فَلَمْ يَمْنَعْنِي مِنَ الْخُرُوجِ إِلَيْكُمْ ، إِلَّا أَنِّي خَشِيتُ أَنْ تُفْرَضَ عَلَيْكُمْ ، قَالَ : وَذَلِكَ فِي رَمَضَانَ " .
'A'isha reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) prayed one night in the mosque and people also prayed along with him. He then prayed on the following night and there were many persons. Then on the third or fourth night (many people) gathered there, but the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) did not come out to them (for leading the Tarawih prayer). When it was morning he said: I saw what you were doing, but I desisted to come to you (and lead the prayer) for I feared that this prayer might become obligatory for you. (He the narrator) said: It was the month of Ramadan.
Hadith 761
وحَدَّثَنِي حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي يُونُسُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ ، أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ أَخْبَرَتْهُ ، " أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، خَرَجَ مِنْ جَوْفِ اللَّيْلِ ، فَصَلَّى فِي الْمَسْجِدِ ، فَصَلَّى رِجَالٌ بِصَلَاتِهِ ، فَأَصْبَحَ النَّاسُ يَتَحَدَّثُونَ بِذَلِكَ فَاجْتَمَعَ أَكْثَرُ مِنْهُمْ ، فَخَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي اللَّيْلَةِ الثَّانِيَةِ ، فَصَلَّوْا بِصَلَاتِهِ ، فَأَصْبَحَ النَّاسُ يَذْكُرُونَ ذَلِكَ ، فَكَثُرَ أَهْلُ الْمَسْجِدِ مِنَ اللَّيْلَةِ الثَّالِثَةِ ، فَخَرَجَ فَصَلَّوْا بِصَلَاتِهِ ، فَلَمَّا كَانَتِ اللَّيْلَةُ الرَّابِعَةُ ، عَجَزَ الْمَسْجِدُ عَنْ أَهْلِهِ ، فَلَمْ يَخْرُجْ إِلَيْهِمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَطَفِقَ رِجَالٌ مِنْهُمْ ، يَقُولُونَ : الصَّلَاةَ ، فَلَمْ يَخْرُجْ إِلَيْهِمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، حَتَّى خَرَجَ لِصَلَاةِ الْفَجْرِ ، فَلَمَّا قَضَى الْفَجْرَ ، أَقْبَلَ عَلَى النَّاسِ ثُمَّ تَشَهَّدَ ، فَقَالَ : أَمَّا بَعْدُ ، فَإِنَّهُ لَمْ يَخْفَ عَلَيَّ شَأْنُكُمُ اللَّيْلَةَ ، وَلَكِنِّي خَشِيتُ أَنْ تُفْرَضَ عَلَيْكُمْ صَلَاةُ اللَّيْلِ ، فَتَعْجِزُوا عَنْهَا " .
'A'isha reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) came out during the night and observed prayer in the mosque and some of the people prayed along with him. When it was morning the people talked about this and so a large number of people gathered there. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) went out for the second night, and they (the people) prayed along with him. When it was morning the people began to talk about it. So the mosque thronged with people on the third night. He (the Holy Prophet) came out and they prayed along with him. When it was the fourth night, the mosque was filled to its utmost capacity but the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) did not come out. Some persons among then cried:" Prayer." But the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) did not come to them till he came out for the morning prayer. When he had completed the morning prayer, he turned his face to the people and recited Tashahhud (I bear testimony that there is no god but Allah and I bear testimony that Muhammad is His Messenger) and then said: Your affair was not hidden from me in the night, but I was afraid that (my observing prayer continuously) might make the night prayer obligatory for you and you might be unable to perform it.
Hadith 785
وحَدَّثَنِي حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ الْمُرَادِيُّ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، عَنْ يُونُسَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ ، أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَخْبَرَتْهُ ، أَنَّ الْحَوْلَاءَ بِنْتَ تُوَيْتِ بْنِ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَسَدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعُزَّى ، مَرَّتْ بِهَا وَعِنْدَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقُلْتُ : هَذِهِ الْحَوْلَاءُ بِنْتُ تُوَيْتٍ ، وَزَعَمُوا أَنَّهَا لَا تَنَامُ اللَّيْلَ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَا تَنَامُ اللَّيْلَ ، خُذُوا مِنَ الْعَمَلِ مَا تُطِيقُونَ ، فَوَاللَّهِ لَا يَسْأَمُ اللَّهُ حَتَّى تَسْأَمُوا " .
'Urwa bin Zubair reported that 'A'isha, the wife of the Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) , told him that (once) Haula' bint Tuwait bin Habib bin Asad bin 'Abdul 'Uzzi passed by her (at the time) when the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was with her. I ('A'isha) said: It Is Haula' bint Tuwait and they say that she does not sleep at night. Upon this the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: (Oh) she does not sleep at night! Choose an act which you are capable of doing (continuously). By Allah, Allah would not grow weary, but you will grow weary.
Hadith 785
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ . ح وَحَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ وَاللَّفْظ لَهُ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : دَخَلَ عَلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَعِنْدِي امْرَأَةٌ ، فَقَالَ : مَنْ هَذِهِ ؟ فَقُلْتُ : امْرَأَةٌ لَا تَنَامُ ، تُصَلِّي ، قَالَ : " عَلَيْكُمْ مِنَ الْعَمَلِ مَا تُطِيقُونَ ، فَوَاللَّهِ لَا يَمَلُّ اللَّهُ حَتَّى تَمَلُّوا ، وَكَانَ أَحَبَّ الدِّينِ إِلَيْهِ مَا دَاوَمَ عَلَيْهِ صَاحِبُهُ " ، وَفِي حَدِيثِ أَبِي أُسَامَةَ : أَنَّهَا امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ بَنِي أَسَدٍ .
'A'isha said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) came to me when a woman was sitting with me. He said: Who is she? I said: She is a woman who does not sleep but prays. He said: Do such acts which you are capable of doing. By Allah, Allah does not grow weary but you will grow weary. The religious act most pleasing to Him is one the doer of which does it continuously. (And in the hadith transmitted by Abu Usama [the words are]:" She was a woman from Banu Asad." )
Hadith 786
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ نُمَيْرٍ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي . ح وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ جَمِيعًا ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ ، عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " إِذَا نَعَسَ أَحَدُكُمْ فِي الصَّلَاةِ ، فَلْيَرْقُدْ حَتَّى يَذْهَبَ عَنْهُ النَّوْمُ ، فَإِنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ إِذَا صَلَّى وَهُوَ نَاعِسٌ ، لَعَلَّهُ يَذْهَبُ يَسْتَغْفِرُ فَيَسُبُّ نَفْسَهُ " .
'A'isha reported Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) as saying: When anyone amongst you dozes in prayer, he should sleep, till sleep is gone, for when one of you prays while dozing he does not know whether he may be asking pardon or vilifying himself.
Hadith 788
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، " أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، سَمِعَ رَجُلًا يَقْرَأُ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ ، فَقَالَ : يَرْحَمُهُ اللَّهُ ، لَقَدْ أَذْكَرَنِي كَذَا وَكَذَا آيَةً ، كُنْتُ أَسْقَطْتُهَا مِنْ سُورَةِ كَذَا وَكَذَا " .
'A'isha reported that the Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) heard a person reciting the Qur'an at night. Upon this he said: May Allah show mercy to him; he has reminded me of such and such a verse which I had missed in such and such a surah.
Hadith 788
وحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَةُ ، وَأَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، " يَسْتَمِعُ قِرَاءَةَ رَجُلٍ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ ، فَقَالَ : رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ لَقَدْ أَذْكَرَنِي آيَةً كُنْتُ أُنْسِيتُهَا " .
'A'isha reported that the Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) listened to the recitation of the Qur'an by a man in the mosque. Thereupon he said: May Allah have mercy upon him; be reminded me of the verse which I had been made to forget.
Hadith 818
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَبْدٍ الْقَارِيِّ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ هِشَامَ بْنَ حَكِيمِ بْنِ حِزَامٍ ، يَقْرَأُ سُورَةَ الْفُرْقَانِ عَلَى غَيْرِ مَا أَقْرَؤُهَا ، وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَقْرَأَنِيهَا ، فَكِدْتُ أَنْ أَعْجَلَ عَلَيْهِ ، ثُمَّ أَمْهَلْتُهُ حَتَّى انْصَرَفَ ، ثُمَّ لَبَّبْتُهُ بِرِدَائِهِ ، فَجِئْتُ بِهِ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ هَذَا ، " يَقْرَأُ سُورَةَ الْفُرْقَانِ عَلَى غَيْرِ مَا أَقْرَأْتَنِيهَا ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَرْسِلْهُ اقْرَأْ ، فَقَرَأَ الْقِرَاءَةَ الَّتِي سَمِعْتُهُ يَقْرَأُ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : هَكَذَا أُنْزِلَتْ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ لِي : اقْرَأْ ، فَقَرَأْتُ ، فَقَالَ : هَكَذَا أُنْزِلَتْ ، إِنَّ هَذَا الْقُرْآنَ أُنْزِلَ عَلَى سَبْعَةِ أَحْرُفٍ ، فَاقْرَءُوا مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنْهُ " .
'Umar bin Khattab said: I heard Hisham bin Hakim bin Hizam reciting Surah al-Furqan in a style different from that in which I used to recite it, and in which Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) had taught me to recite it. I was about to dispute with him (on this style) but I delayed till he had finished that (the recitation). Then I caught hold of his cloak and brought him to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and said: Messenger of Allah, I heard this man reciting Surah al-Furqan in a style different from the one in which you taught me to recite. Upon this the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) told (me) to leave him alone and asked him to recite. He then recited in the style in which I beard him recite it. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) then said: Thus was it sent down. He then told me to recite and I recited it, and he said: Thus was it sent down. The Qur'an was sent down in seven dialects. So recite what seems easy there from.
Hadith 818
وحَدَّثَنِي حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي يُونُسُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ ، أَنَّ الْمِسْوَرَ بْنَ مَخَرَمَةَ ، وَعَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ عَبْدٍ الْقَارِيَّ أَخْبَرَاهُ ، أَنَّهُمَا سَمِعَا عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ هِشَامَ بْنَ حَكِيمٍ ، يَقْرَأُ سُورَةَ الْفُرْقَانِ فِي حَيَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَسَاقَ الْحَدِيثَ بِمِثْلِهِ ، وَزَادَ ، فَكِدْتُ أُسَاوِرُهُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ ، فَتَصَبَّرْتُ حَتَّى سَلَّمَ .
This hadith has been transmitted thus by 'Umar bin Khattab (with a slight change of words):" I heard Hisham bin Hakim reciting Surah al-Furqan during the lifetime of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) ." The rest is the same but with this addition:" I was about to catch hold of him in prayer, but I exercised patience till he pronounced salutation.
Hadith 828
وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، ومُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ ، قَالَا جَمِيعًا : حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَا تَحَرَّوْا بِصَلَاتِكُمْ طُلُوعَ الشَّمْسِ ، وَلَا غُرُوبَهَا فَإِنَّهَا تَطْلُعُ بِقَرْنَيْ شَيْطَانٍ " .
Ibn 'Umar reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: Do not intend to observe prayer at the time of the rising of the sun nor at its setting, for it rises between the horns of Satan.
Hadith 829
وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، وابْنُ بِشْرٍ ، قَالُوا جَمِيعًا : حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا بَدَا حَاجِبُ الشَّمْسِ ، فَأَخِّرُوا الصَّلَاةَ حَتَّى تَبْرُزَ ، وَإِذَا غَابَ حَاجِبُ الشَّمْسِ فَأَخِّرُوا الصَّلَاةَ حَتَّى تَغِيبَ " .
Ibn 'Umar reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: When the rim of the sun starts appearing defer prayer till it completely appears, and when the rim of the sun disappears defer prayer till it completely disappears.
Hadith 835
حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، جَمِيعًا ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : " مَا تَرَكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ عِنْدِي قَطُّ " .
'A'isha reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) did not abandon at all observing two rak'ahs after the 'Asr in my house.
Hadith 847
حَدَّثَنِي هَارُونُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْأَيْلِيُّ ، وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ عِيسَى ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرٌو ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ، أَنَّ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَهُ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ : كَانَ النَّاسُ يَنْتَابُونَ الْجُمُعَةَ مِنْ مَنَازِلِهِمْ مِنَ الْعَوَالِي فَيَأْتُونَ فِي الْعَبَاءِ وَيُصِيبُهُمُ الْغُبَارُ ، فَتَخْرُجُ مِنْهُمُ الرِّيحُ ، فَأَتَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنْسَانٌ مِنْهُمْ وَهُوَ عِنْدِي ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَوْ أَنَّكُمْ تَطَهَّرْتُمْ لِيَوْمِكُمْ هَذَا " .
'Aisha reported: The people came for Jumu'a prayer from their houses in the neighbouring villages dressed in woolen garments on which dust was settled and this emitted a foal smell. A person among them (those who were dressed so) came to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) while he was in my house. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) (may peace he upon him) said to him: Were you to cleanse yourselves on this day.
Hadith 892
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : دَخَلَ عَلَيَّ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعِنْدِي جَارِيَتَانِ مِنْ جَوَارِي الْأَنْصَار ، تُغَنِّيَانِ بِمَا تَقَاوَلَتْ بِهِ الْأَنْصَارُ يَوْمَ بُعَاثَ ، قَالَتْ : وَلَيْسَتَا بِمُغَنِّيَتَيْنِ ، فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْر : أَبِمَزْمُورِ الشَّيْطَانِ فِي بَيْتِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَذَلِكَ فِي يَوْمِ عِيدٍ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " يَا أَبَا بَكْرٍ إِنَّ لِكُلِّ قَوْمٍ عِيدًا وَهَذَا عِيدُنَا " .
'A'isha reported: Abu Bakr (RA) came to see me and I had two girls with me from among the girls of the Ansar and they were singing what the Ansar recited to one another at the Battle of Bu'ath. They were not, however, singing girls. Upon this Abu Bakr (RA) said: What! (the playing of) this wind instrument of Satan in the house of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and this too on 'Id day? Upon this the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Abu Bakr, every people have a festival and it is our festival (so let them play on).
Hadith 892
حَدَّثَنِي هَارُونُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْأَيْلِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرٌو ، أَنَّ ابْنَ شِهَابٍ ، حَدَّثَهُ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، أَنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ دَخَلَ عَلَيْهَا وَعِنْدَهَا جَارِيَتَانِ فِي أَيَّامِ مِنًى تُغَنِّيَانِ وَتَضْرِبَانِ ، وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُسَجًّى بِثَوْبِهِ ، فَانْتَهَرَهُمَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ ، فَكَشَف رَسُولُ اللَّهِ عَنْهُ ، وَقَالَ : " دَعْهُمَا يَا أَبَا بَكْرٍ فَإِنَّهَا أَيَّامُ عِيدٍ " . وَقَالَتْ : رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَسْتُرُنِي بِرِدَائِهِ ، وَأَنَا أَنْظُرُ إِلَى الْحَبَشَةِ وَهُمْ يَلْعَبُونَ وَأَنَا جَارِيَةٌ ، فَاقْدِرُوا قَدْرَ الْجَارِيَةِ الْعَرِبَةِ الْحَدِيثَةِ السِّنِّ .
'A'isha reported that Abu Bakr (RA) came to her and there were with her two girls on Adha days who were singing and beating the tambourine and the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) had wrapped himself with his mantle. Abu Bakr (RA) scolded them. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) (may peace he upon him) uncovered (his face) and said: Abu Bakr, leave them alone for these are the days of 'Id. And 'A'isha said: I recapitulate to my mind the fact that once the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) screened me with his mantle and I saw the sports of the Abyssinians, and I was only a girl, and so you can well imagine how a girl of tender age is fond of watching the sport.
Hadith 892
وحَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الطَّاهِرِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي يُونُسُ ، عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ ، قَالَ : قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ " وَاللَّهِ لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : يَقُومُ عَلَى بَابِ حُجْرَتِي ، وَالْحَبَشَةُ يَلْعَبُونَ بِحِرَابِهِمْ فِي مَسْجِدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَسْتُرُنِي بِرِدَائِهِ لِكَيْ أَنْظُرَ إِلَى لَعِبِهِمْ ، ثُمَّ يَقُومُ مِنْ أَجْلِي حَتَّى أَكُونَ أَنَا الَّتِي أَنْصَرِفُ ، فَاقْدِرُوا قَدْرَ الْجَارِيَةِ الْحَدِيثَةِ السِّنِّ حَرِيصَةً عَلَى اللَّهْوِ " .
'A'isha reported: By Allah, I remember the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) standing on the door of my apartment screening me with his mantle enabling me to see the sport of the Abyssinians as they played with their daggers in the mosque of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) . He (the Holy Prophet) kept standing for my sake till I was satiated and then I went back; and thus you can well imagine how long a girl tender of age who is fond of sports (could have watched it).
Hadith 892
حَدَّثَنِي هَارُونُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْأَيْلِيُّ ، وَيُونُسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى ، وَاللَّفْظُ لِهَارُونَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرٌو ، أَنَّ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، حَدَّثَهُ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : دَخَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَعِنْدِي جَارِيَتَانِ تُغَنِّيَانِ بِغِنَاءِ بُعَاثٍ ، فَاضْطَجَعَ عَلَى الْفِرَاشِ وَحَوَّلَ وَجْهَهُ ، فَدَخَلَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ فَانْتَهَرَنِي ، وَقَالَ : مِزْمَارُ الشَّيْطَانِ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَأَقْبَلَ عَلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : " دَعْهُمَا " ، فَلَمَّا غَفَلَ غَمَزْتُهُمَا فَخَرَجَتَا ، وَكَانَ يَوْمَ عِيدٍ يَلْعَبُ السُّودَانُ بِالدَّرَقِ وَالْحِرَابِ ، فَإِمَّا سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَإِمَّا قَالَ : " تَشْتَهِينَ تَنْظُرِينَ " ، فَقُلْتُ : نَعَمْ ، فَأَقَامَنِي وَرَاءَهُ خَدِّي عَلَى خَدِّهِ ، وَهُوَ يَقُولُ : " دُونَكُمْ يَا بَنِي أَرْفِدَةَ " ، حَتَّى إِذَا مَلِلْتُ ، قَالَ : " حَسْبُكِ " ، قُلْتُ : نَعَمْ ، قَالَ : " فَاذْهَبِي " .
'A'isha reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) came (in my apartment) while there were two girls with me singing the song of the Battle of Bu'ath. He lay down on the bed and turned away his face. Then came Abu Bakr (RA) and he scolded me and said: Oh! this musical instrument of the devil in the house of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) ! The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) turned towards him and said: Leave them alone. And when he (the Holy Prophet) became inattentive, I hinted them and they went out, and it was the day of 'Id and negroes were playing with shields and spears. (I do not remember) whether I asked the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) or whether he said to me if I desired to see (that sport). I said: Yes. I stood behind him with his face parallel to my face, and he said: O Banu Arfada, be busy (in your sports) till I was satiated. He said (to me): Is that enough? I said: Yes. Upon this he asked me to go.
Hadith 892
حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : " جَاءَ حَبَشٌ يَزْفِنُونَ فِي يَوْمِ عِيدٍ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ ، فَدَعَانِي النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَوَضَعْتُ رَأْسِي عَلَى مَنْكِبِهِ ، فَجَعَلْتُ أَنْظُرُ إِلَى لَعِبِهِمْ ، حَتَّى كُنْتُ أَنَا الَّتِي أَنْصَرِفُ عَنِ النَّظَرِ إِلَيْهِمْ " .
'A'isha reported that some Abyssinians came and gave a demonstration of armed fight on the 'Id day in the mosque. The Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) invited me (to see that fight). I placed my head on his shoulder and began to see their sport till it was I who turned away from watching them.
Hadith 901
حَدَّثَنِي حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي يُونُسُ . ح وحَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الطَّاهِرِ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ الْمُرَادِيُّ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، عَنْ يُونُسَ ، عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ زَوجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَتْ : خَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ فِي حَيَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَخَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ ، فَقَامَ وَكَبَّرَ وَصَفَّ النَّاسُ وَرَاءَهُ ، فَاقْتَرَأَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قِرَاءَةً طَوِيلَةً ، ثُمَّ كَبَّرَ فَرَكَعَ رُكُوعًا طَوِيلًا ، ثُمَّ رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ ، فَقَالَ : " سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ ، رَبَّنَا وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ " ، ثُمَّ قَامَ فَاقْتَرَأَ قِرَاءَةً طَوِيلَةً هِيَ أَدْنَى مِنَ الْقِرَاءَةِ الْأُولَى ، ثُمَّ كَبَّرَ فَرَكَعَ رُكُوعًا طَوِيلًا هُوَ أَدْنَى مِنَ الرُّكُوعِ الْأَوَّلِ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ ، رَبَّنَا وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ " ، ثُمَّ سَجَدَ ، وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ أَبُو الطَّاهِرِ ، ثُمَّ سَجَدَ ، ثُمَّ فَعَلَ فِي الرَّكْعَةِ الْأُخْرَى مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ ، حَتَّى اسْتَكْمَلَ أَرْبَعَ رَكَعَاتٍ وَأَرْبَعَ سَجَدَاتٍ ، وَانْجَلَتِ الشَّمْسُ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَنْصَرِفَ ، ثُمَّ قَامَ فَخَطَبَ النَّاسَ فَأَثْنَى عَلَى اللَّهِ بِمَا هُوَ أَهْلُهُ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ ، لَا يَخْسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلَا لِحَيَاتِهِ ، فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهَا فَافْزَعُوا لِلصَّلَاةِ " ، وَقَالَ أَيْضًا : " فَصَلُّوا حَتَّى يُفَرِّجَ اللَّهُ عَنْكُمْ " ، وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " رَأَيْتُ فِي مَقَامِي هَذَا كُلَّ شَيْءٍ وُعِدْتُمْ ، حَتَّى لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُنِي أُرِيدُ أَنْ آخُذَ قِطْفًا مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ حِينَ رَأَيْتُمُونِي جَعَلْتُ أُقَدِّمُ " ، وقَالَ الْمُرَادِيُّ : " أَتَقَدَّمُ وَلَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ جَهَنَّمَ يَحْطِمُ بَعْضُهَا بَعْضًا حِينَ رَأَيْتُمُونِي تَأَخَّرْتُ ، وَرَأَيْتُ فِيهَا ابْنَ لُحَيٍّ وَهُوَ الَّذِي سَيَّبَ السَّوَائِبَ " . وَانْتَهَى حَدِيثُ أَبِي الطَّاهِرِ عِنْدَ قَوْلِهِ : " فَافْزَعُوا لِلصَّلَاةِ " ، وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ مَا بَعْدَهُ .
'A'isha, the wife of the Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) , reported There was an eclipse of the sun during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) . So, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) (may peace he upon him) went to the mosque and stood up and glorified Allah, and the people formed themselves in rows behind him. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) made a long recital (of the Qur'an) and then pronounced takbir and then observed a long ruku'. He then raised his head and said: Allah listened to him who praised Him: our Lord, praise is due to Thee. He then again stood up and made a long recital, which was less than the first recital. He pronounced takbir and observed a long ruku', and it was less than the first one. He again said: Allah listened to him who praised Him; our Lord, praise is due to Thee. (Abu Tahir, one of the narrators) made no mention of:" He then prostrated himself." He did like this in the second rak'ah, till he completed four rak'ahs and four prostrations and the sun became bright before he deported. He then stood up and addressed people, after lauding Allah as He deserved, and then said: The sun and the moon are two signs among the signs of Allah These do not eclipse either on the death of anyone or on his birth. So when you see them, hasten to prayer. He also said this: Observe prayer till Allah dispels the anxiety (of this extraordinary phenomenon) from you. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: I saw in my place everything which you have been promised. I even saw myself desiring to pluck a bunch (of grapes) from Paradise (and it was at the time) when you saw me moving forward. And I saw Hell and some of its parts crushing the others, when you saw me moving back; and I saw in it Ibn Luhayy and he was the person who made the she-camels loiter about. In the hadith transmitted by Abu Tahir the words are:" He hastened to prayer," and he made no mention of what follows.
Hadith 901
وحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مِهْرَانَ الرَّازِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ أَبُو عَمْرٍو ، وَغَيْرُهُ سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ شِهَابٍ الزُّهْرِيَّ يُخْبِرُ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ " أَنَّ الشَّمْسَ خَسَفَتْ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَبَعَثَ مُنَادِيًا الصَّلَاةُ جَامِعَةٌ فَاجْتَمَعُوا ، وَتَقَدَّمَ فَكَبَّرَ وَصَلَّى أَرْبَعَ رَكَعَاتٍ فِي رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَأَرْبَعَ سَجَدَاتٍ " .
'A'isha reported that there was a solar eclipse during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and he sent the announcer (to summon them) for congregational prayer. The people gathered together and he pronounced takbir and he observed four rak'ahs, in the form of two rak'ahs (i. e. he observed two qiyams and two ruku's in one rak'ah) and four prostrations.
Hadith 901
وحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مِهْرَانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ نَمِرٍ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ ابْنَ شِهَابٍ يُخْبِرُ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " جَهَرَ فِي صَلَاةِ الْخُسُوفِ بِقِرَاءَتِهِ ، فَصَلَّى أَرْبَعَ رَكَعَاتٍ فِي رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَأَرْبَعَ سَجَدَاتٍ " .
'A'isha reported that the Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) recited loudly in the eclipse prayer, and he observed four rak'ahs in the form of two rak'ahs and four prostrations.

وحَدَّثَنَا خَلَفُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ ، وَأَبُو الرَّبِيعِ الزَّهْرَانِيُّ ، جميعا ، عَنْ حَمَّادٍ ، قَالَ خَلَفٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : ذُكِرَ عِنْدَ عَائِشَةَ قَوْلُ ابْنِ عُمَرَ : الْمَيِّتُ يُعَذَّبُ بِبُكَاءِ أَهْلِهِ عَلَيْهِ ، فَقَالَتْ : رَحِمَ اللَّهُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ سَمِعَ شَيْئًا فَلَمْ يَحْفَظْهُ ، إِنَّمَا مَرَّتْ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جَنَازَةُ يَهُودِيٍّ ، وَهُمْ يَبْكُونَ عَلَيْهِ ، فَقَالَ : " أَنْتُمْ تَبْكُونَ وَإِنَّهُ لَيُعَذَّبُ " .
Hisham bin 'Urwa narrated on the authority of his father that the saying of Ibn 'Umar, viz." The dead would be punished because of the lamentation of his family over him" was mentioned to 'A'isha. Upon this she said: May Allah have mercy upon Abu 'Abdul Rahman (the kunya of Ibn 'Umar) that he heard something but could not retain it (well). (The fact is) that the bier of a Jew passed before the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and (the members of his family) were waiting over him. Upon this he said: You are wailing and he is being punished.
Hadith 932
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : ذُكِرَ عِنْدَ عَائِشَةَ ، أَنَّ ابْنَ عُمَرَ يَرْفَعُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ الْمَيِّتَ يُعَذَّبُ فِي قَبْرِهِ بِبُكَاءِ أَهْلِهِ عَلَيْهِ " ، فَقَالَتْ : وَهِلَ إِنَّمَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّهُ لَيُعَذَّبُ بِخَطِيئَتِهِ أَوْ بِذَنْبِهِ ، وَإِنَّ أَهْلَهُ لَيَبْكُونَ عَلَيْهِ الْآنَ " . وَذَاكَ مِثْلُ قَوْلِهِ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَامَ عَلَى الْقَلِيبِ يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ ، وَفِيهِ قَتْلَى بَدْرٍ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ ، فَقَالَ لَهُمْ مَا قَالَ : " إِنَّهُمْ لَيَسْمَعُونَ مَا أَقُولُ " ، وَقَدْ وَهِلَ ، إِنَّمَا قَالَ : " إِنَّهُمْ لَيَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّ مَا كُنْتُ أَقُولُ لَهُمْ حَقٌّ " ، ثُمَّ قَرَأَتْ إِنَّكَ لا تُسْمِعُ الْمَوْتَى سورة النمل آية 80 ، وَمَا أَنْتَ بِمُسْمِعٍ مَنْ فِي الْقُبُورِ سورة فاطر آية 22 ، يَقُولُ : حِينَ تَبَوَّءُوا مَقَاعِدَهُمْ مِنَ النَّارِ .
Hisham narrated on the authority of his father that it was mentioned to 'A'isha that Ibn 'Umar had narrated as marfu' hadith from the Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) that the dead would be punished in the grave because of the lamentation of his family for him. Upon this she said: He (Ibn 'Umar) missed (the point). The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) had (in fact) said: He (the dead) is punished for his faults or for his sins, and the members of his family are wailing for him now. (This misunderstanding of Ibn 'Umar is similar to his saying:) The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) stood by the well in which were lying the dead bodies of those polytheists who had been killed on the Day of Badr, and he said to them what he had to say, i. e.: They hear what I say. But he (Ibn 'Umar) misunderstood. The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) had only said: They (the dead) understand that what I used to say to them was truth. She then recited:" Certainly, thou canst not make the dead hear the call" (xxvii. 80), nor can you make those hear who are in the graves, nor can you inform them when they have taken their seats in Hell.
Hadith 941
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ وَاللَّفْظُ لِيَحْيَى ، قَالَ يَحْيَى أَخْبَرَنَا ، وَقَالَ الْآخَرَانِ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : " كُفِّنَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي ثَلَاثَةِ أَثْوَابٍ بِيضٍ سَحُولِيَّةٍ مِنْ كُرْسُفٍ ، لَيْسَ فِيهَا قَمِيصٌ وَلَا عِمَامَةٌ ، أَمَّا الْحُلَّةُ فَإِنَّمَا شُبِّهَ عَلَى النَّاسِ فِيهَا ، أَنَّهَا اشْتُرِيَتْ لَهُ لِيُكَفَّنَ فِيهَا ، فَتُرِكَتِ الْحُلَّةُ وَكُفِّنَ فِي ثَلَاثَةِ أَثْوَابٍ بِيضٍ سَحُولِيَّةٍ " ، فَأَخَذَهَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، فَقَالَ : لَأَحْبِسَنَّهَا حَتَّى أُكَفِّنَ فِيهَا نَفْسِي ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : لَوْ رَضِيَهَا اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لِنَبِيِّهِ لَكَفَّنَهُ فِيهَا ، فَبَاعَهَا وَتَصَدَّقَ بِثَمَنِهَا " .
'A'isha reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was shrouded in three cotton garments of white Yamani stuff from Sahul, among which was neither a shirt nor a turban; and so far as Hullah is concerned there was some doubt about it in the minds of people, that it was brought for him in order to shroud him with it, but it was abandoned, and he was shrouded in three cotton garments of white Yamani stuff from Sahul. Then 'Abdullah bin Abu Bakr (RA) got it and said: I would keep it in order to shroud myself in it. He then said: If Allah, the Exalted and Majestic, would have desired it for His Apostle, he would have been shrouded with it. So he sold it and gave its price in charity.
Hadith 941
وحَدَّثَنِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ السَّعْدِيُّ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُسْهِرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : " أُدْرِجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي حُلَّةٍ يَمَنِيَّةٍ ، كَانَتْ لِعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، ثُمَّ نُزِعَتْ عَنْهُ وَكُفِّنَ فِي ثَلَاثَةِ أَثْوَابٍ سُحُولٍ يَمَانِيَةٍ ، لَيْسَ فِيهَا عِمَامَةٌ وَلَا قَمِيصٌ " ، فَرَفَعَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ الْحُلَّةَ ، فَقَالَ : أُكَفَّنُ فِيهَا ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : لَمْ يُكَفَّنْ فِيهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَأُكَفَّنُ فِيهَا ! فَتَصَدَّقَ بِهَا " ،
'A'isha reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was wrapped in a Yamani wrapper which belonged to 'Abdullah b Abu Bakr; then it was removed from him, and he was shrouded in three cotton sheets of white Yamani stuff from Sahul among which was neither a shirt nor a turban. 'Abdullah took up the Hullah and said: I would be shrouded in it, but then said: How is it that I should be shrouded in it in which the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was not shrouded! So he gave it in charity.
Hadith 1001
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَتْ : قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ هَلْ لِي أَجْرٌ فِي بَنِي أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ؟ ، أُنْفِقُ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَسْتُ بِتَارِكَتِهِمْ هَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا إِنَّمَا هُمْ بَنِيَّ ، فَقَالَ : " نَعَمْ لَكِ فِيهِمْ أَجْرُ مَا أَنْفَقْتِ عَلَيْهِمْ " ،
Umm Salamah said: I asked the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) whether there is a reward for me if I spend on Abu Salama's sons, and I am not going to abandon them in this state (of helplessness) for they are my sons. He (the Holy Prophet) said: Yes. For you is the reward for what you spend on them.
Hadith 1003
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَسْمَاءَ ، قَالَتْ : قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أُمِّي قَدِمَتْ عَلَيَّ ، وَهِيَ رَاغِبَةٌ أَوْ رَاهِبَةٌ ، أَفَأَصِلُهَا ؟ ، قَالَ : " نَعَمْ " .
Asma' daughter of Abu Bakr (RA) reported: I said: Messenger of Allah, my mother, who is inclined or scared has come to me. Should I (even in her position of being opposed to Islam) treat her well? He said: Yes.
Hadith 1003
وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، قَالَتْ : قَدِمَتْ عَلَيَّ أُمِّي وَهِيَ مُشْرِكَةٌ فِي عَهْدِ قُرَيْشٍ إِذْ عَاهَدَهُمْ ، فَاسْتَفْتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَدِمَتْ عَلَيَّ أُمِّي وَهِيَ رَاغِبَةٌ أَفَأَصِلُ أُمِّي ؟ ، قَالَ : " نَعَمْ صِلِي أُمَّكِ " .
Asma' bint Abu Bakr (RA) reported: My mother who was a polytheist came to me when he (the Holy Prophet) entered into treaty with the Quraish (of Makkah). I inquired from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saying: Messenger of Allah, there has come to me my mother and she is inclined; should I (in this state of her mind) show her kindness? He said: Yes, treat her kindly.
Hadith 1004
وحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أُمِّيَ افْتُلِتَتْ نَفْسَهَا وَلَمْ تُوصِ ، وَأَظُنُّهَا لَوْ تَكَلَّمَتْ تَصَدَّقَتْ ، أَفَلَهَا أَجْرٌ إِنْ تَصَدَّقْتُ عَنْهَا ؟ ، قَالَ : " نَعَمْ " ،
'A'isha said that a person came to the Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) and said: My mother died suddenly without having made any will. I think she would have definitely given Sadaqa if she had been able to speak. Would she have a reward if I gave Sadaqa on her behalf? He (the Holy Prophet) said: Yes.
Hadith 1035
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَعَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ ، وَسَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ حَكِيمِ بْنِ حِزَامٍ ، قَالَ : سَأَلْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَعْطَانِي ، ثُمَّ سَأَلْتُهُ فَأَعْطَانِي ، ثُمَّ سَأَلْتُهُ فَأَعْطَانِي ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " إِنَّ هَذَا الْمَالَ خَضِرَةٌ حُلْوَةٌ فَمَنْ أَخَذَهُ بِطِيبِ نَفْسٍ بُورِكَ لَهُ فِيهِ ، وَمَنْ أَخَذَهُ بِإِشْرَافِ نَفْسٍ لَمْ يُبَارَكْ لَهُ فِيهِ ، وَكَانَ كَالَّذِي يَأْكُلُ وَلَا يَشْبَعُ ، وَالْيَدُ الْعُلْيَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْيَدِ السُّفْلَى " .
Hakim bin Hizam reported: I begged the Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) , and he gave me. I again begged, he again gave me. I again begged, he again gave me, and then said: This property is green and sweet; he who receives it with a cheerful heart is blessed in it, and he who receives it with an avaricious mind would not be blessed in it, he being like one who eats without being satished, and the upper hand is better than the lower hand.
Hadith 1083
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَقْسَمَ أَنْ لَا يَدْخُلَ عَلَى أَزْوَاجِهِ شَهْرًا ، قَالَ الزُّهْرِيُّ : فَأَخْبَرَنِي عُرْوَةُ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا ، قَالَتْ : لَمَّا مَضَتْ تِسْعٌ وَعِشْرُونَ لَيْلَةً أَعُدُّهُنَّ ، دَخَلَ عَلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَتْ : بَدَأَ بِي ، فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّكَ أَقْسَمْتَ أَنْ لَا تَدْخُلَ عَلَيْنَا شَهْرًا وَإِنَّكَ دَخَلْتَ مِنْ تِسْعٍ وَعِشْرِينَ أَعُدُّهُنَّ ، فَقَالَ : " إِنَّ الشَّهْرَ تِسْعٌ وَعِشْرُونَ " .
Zuhri reported that (once) the Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) took an oath that he would not go to his wives for one Month. Zuhri said that 'Urwa narrated to him from 'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) that she said: When twenty-nine nights were over, which I had counted, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) came to me (he came to me first of all). I said: Messenger of Allah, you had taken an oath that you would not come to us for a month, whereas you have come after twenty nine days which I have counted. Whereupon he said: The month may also consist of twenty-nine days.
Hadith 1100
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، وَابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، واتفقوا في اللفظ ، قَالَ يَحْيَى : أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، وقَالَ ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، وقَالَ أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ جَمِيعًا ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ، عَنْ عُمَرَرَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا أَقْبَلَ اللَّيْلُ وَأَدْبَرَ النَّهَارُ ، وَغَابَتِ الشَّمْسُ ، فَقَدْ أَفْطَرَ الصَّائِمُ " ، لَمْ يَذْكُرْ ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ فَقَدْ .
'Umar (RA) reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: When the night approaches and the day retreates and the sun sinks down, then the observer of the fast should break it. Ibn Numair made no mention of the word "then".
Hadith 1105
وحَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، وَعُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ جميعا ، عَنْ عَبْدَةَ ، قَالَ إسحاق : أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدَةُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا ، قَالَتْ : نَهَاهُمُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنِ الْوِصَالِ رَحْمَةً لَهُمْ ، فَقَالُوا : إِنَّكَ تُوَاصِلُ ، قَالَ : " إِنِّي لَسْتُ كَهَيْئَتِكُمْ ، إِنِّي يُطْعِمُنِي رَبِّي وَيَسْقِينِي " .
'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) said: The Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) forbade them (his Companions) to observe Saum Wisal out of mercy for them. They said: You (Holy Prophet) yourself observe it. Upon this he said: I am not like you. My Lord feeds me and provides me drink.
Hadith 1106
حَدَّثَنِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا ، قَالَتْ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُقَبِّلُ إِحْدَى نِسَائِهِ وَهُوَ صَائِمٌ " ، ثُمَّ تَضْحَكُ .
'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) said that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) kissed one of his wives while he was fasting, and then she ('A'isha) smiled (as she narrated).
Hadith 1106
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ أَخْبَرَهُ ، أَنَّ عُرْوَةَ بْنَ الزُّبَيْرِ أَخْبَرَهُ ، أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ أُمَّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا أَخْبَرَتْهُ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " كَانَ يُقَبِّلُهَا وَهُوَ صَائِمٌ " ،
'Urwa bin Zubair narrated that 'A'isha the Mother of the Believers (Allah be pleased with her) informed him that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) kissed her while fasting.
