Hadith 1653
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَهْلِ بْنِ عَسْكَرٍ الْبَغْدَادِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ الْمِصْرِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ شُرَيْحٍ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ سَهْلَ بْنَ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ بْنِ سَهْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " مَنْ سَأَلَ اللَّهَ الشَّهَادَةَ مِنْ قَلْبِهِ صَادِقًا ، بَلَّغَهُ اللَّهُ مَنَازِلَ الشُّهَدَاءِ وَإِنْ مَاتَ عَلَى فِرَاشِهِ " ، قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى : حَدِيثُ سَهْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ ، لَا نَعْرِفُهُ إِلَّا مِنْ حَدِيثِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ شُرَيْحٍ ، وَقَدْ رَوَاهُ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ شُرَيْحٍ ، وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ شُرَيْحٍ يكنى أبا شريح وهو إسكندراني ، وفي الباب ، عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ .
It is narrated from Sahl bin Hunaif (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Whoever sincerely asks Allah for martyrdom, Allah will grant him the rank of the martyrs even if he dies on his bed." 1. © Imam Tirmidhi says:
1- The hadith of Sahl bin Hunaif is Hasan Gharib; we know it only from the narration of Abdur Rahman bin Shuraih. This hadith has also been narrated from Abdur Rahman bin Shuraih by Abdullah bin Salih. The kunyah of Abdur Rahman bin Shuraih is Abu Shuraih, and he is an Iskandarani (resident of Alexandria).
2- In this chapter, there is also a narration from Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him).
1- The hadith of Sahl bin Hunaif is Hasan Gharib; we know it only from the narration of Abdur Rahman bin Shuraih. This hadith has also been narrated from Abdur Rahman bin Shuraih by Abdullah bin Salih. The kunyah of Abdur Rahman bin Shuraih is Abu Shuraih, and he is an Iskandarani (resident of Alexandria).
2- In this chapter, there is also a narration from Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him).
Hadith 2103
حَدَّثَنَا بُنْدَارٌ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ الزُّبَيْرِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ حَكِيمِ بْنِ حَكِيمِ بْنِ عَبَّادِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ، عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ بْنِ سَهْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ، قَالَ : كَتَبَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ إِلَى أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ مَوْلَى مَنْ لَا مَوْلَى لَهُ ، وَالْخَالُ وَارِثُ مَنْ لَا وَارِثَ لَهُ " ، قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى : وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، وَالْمِقْدَامِ بْنِ مَعْدِ يَكَرِبَ ، وَهَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ .
´Abu Umamah bin Sahl bin Hunaif said:` "'Umar bin Al-Khattab sent me with a letter to Abu'Ubaidah (saying) that The Messenger of Allah(S.A.W) said : 'Allah and His Messenger are responsible for the one who has no patron. And the maternal uncle inherits from the one who has no heirs.'"
Hadith 2158
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدَةَ الضَّبِّيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ بْنِ سَهْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ، أَنّ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ عَفَّانَ أَشْرَفَ يَوْمَ الدَّارِ ، فَقَالَ : أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " لَا يَحِلُّ دَمُ امْرِئٍ مُسْلِمٍ إِلَّا بِإِحْدَى ثَلَاثٍ : زِنًا بَعْدَ إِحْصَانٍ ، أَوِ ارْتِدَادٍ بَعْدَ إِسْلَامٍ ، أَوْ قَتْلِ نَفْسٍ بِغَيْرِ حَقٍّ ، فَقُتِلَ بِهِ " ، فَوَاللَّهِ مَا زَنَيْتُ فِي جَاهِلِيَّةٍ وَلَا فِي إِسْلَامٍ ، وَلَا ارْتَدَدْتُ مُنْذُ بَايَعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَلَا قَتَلْتُ النَّفْسَ الَّتِي حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ ، فَبِمَ تَقْتُلُونَنِي ؟ ، قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى : وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ، وَعَائِشَةَ ، وَابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، وَهَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ ، وَرَوَاهُ حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ فَرَفَعَهُ ، وَرَوَى يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْقَطَّانُ ، وَغَيْرُ وَاحِدٍ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ فَأَوْقَفُوهُ وَلَمْ يَرْفَعُوهُ ، وَقَدْ رُوِيَ هَذَا الْحَدِيثُ مِنْ غَيْرِ وَجْهٍ ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَرْفُوعًا .
´Abu Umamah bin Sahl bin Hunaif narrated that on the day of siege, 'Uthman bin 'Affan stood overlooking the people, and he said:` "I swear to you by Allah! You know that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said: 'The blood of a Muslim man is not lawful, except for one of three (cases):Illegitimate sexual relations after Ihsan (having been married), or apostasy after Islam, or taking a life without right, for which he is killed.' By Allah! I have never committed illegitimate sexual relations, not during Jahiliyyah nor during Islam, and I have not committed apostasy since I gave my pledge to the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w), and I have not taken a life that Allah had made unlawful. So for what do you fight me?"'
Hadith 2285
حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحمَّدٍ الْجُرَيْريُّ الْبَلْخِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ بْنِ سَهْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ، عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " بَيْنَمَا أَنَا نَائِمٌ رَأَيْتُ النَّاسَ يُعْرَضُونَ عَلَيَّ وَعَلَيْهِمْ قُمُصٌ مِنْهَا مَا يَبْلُغُ الثُّدِيَّ ، وَمِنْهَا مَا يَبْلُغُ أَسْفَلَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ ، فَعُرِضَ عَلَيَّ عُمَرُ وَعَلَيْهِ قَمِيصٌ يَجُرُّهُ ، قَالُوا : فَمَا أَوَّلْتَهُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ؟ قَالَ : الدِّينَ " .
´Abu Umamah bin Sahl bin Hunaif narrated from some of the companions of the Prophet (s.a.w) that the Prophet (s.a.w) said:` "While I was sleeping I saw people presented before me, and that they were wearing shirts. Some of them (the shirts) reaching their breasts, and some of them reaching below that." He said: "Then 'Umar was presented before me and he was wearing a shirt that was dragging." They said: "How did you interpret that O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "The religion."
Hadith 2286
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ صَالِحِ بْنِ كَيْسَانَ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ بْنِ سَهْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَحْوَهُ بِمَعْنَاهُ ، قَالَ : وَهَذَا أَصَحُّ .
´Abu Umamah bin Sahl bin Hunaif narrated from Abu Sa'eed al-Khudri that the Prophet (s.a.w) said:` similar in meaning (to no. 2285).
