Hadith 1065
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَكَرَ الطَّاعُونَ ، فَقَالَ : " بَقِيَّةُ رِجْزٍ ، أَوْ عَذَابٍ أُرْسِلَ عَلَى طَائِفَةٍ مِنْ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ ، فَإِذَا وَقَعَ بِأَرْضٍ وَأَنْتُمْ بِهَا فَلَا تَخْرُجُوا مِنْهَا ، وَإِذَا وَقَعَ بِأَرْضٍ وَلَسْتُمْ بِهَا فَلَا تَهْبِطُوا عَلَيْهَا " . قَالَ : وَفِي الْبَاب ، عَنْ سَعْدٍ ، وَخُزَيْمَةَ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ ، وَعَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ ، وَجَابِرٍ ، وَعَائِشَةَ . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى : حَدِيثُ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ .
´Usamah bin Zaid narrated that:` The Prophet mentioned the plague and said: "It is an abiding punishment or chastisement that was sent upon a group of the children of Isra'il. So when it occurs in a land while you are in it, then do not leave it. And when it occurs in a land while you are not in it, then do not enter it."
Hadith 2035
حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْمَرْوَزِيُّ بِمَكَّةَ ، وَإِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْجَوْهَرِيُّ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا الْأَحْوَصُ بْنُ جَوَّابٍ، عَنْ سُعَيْرِ بْنِ الْخِمْسِ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ التَّيْمِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ النَّهْدِيِّ، عَنْ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَنْ صُنِعَ إِلَيْهِ مَعْرُوفٌ فَقَالَ لِفَاعِلِهِ : جَزَاكَ اللَّهُ خَيْرًا فَقَدْ أَبْلَغَ فِي الثَّنَاءِ " ، قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى : هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ جَيِّدٌ غَرِيبٌ ، لَا نَعْرِفُهُ مِنْ حَدِيثِ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ إِلَّا مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ ، وَقَدْ رُوِيَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِمِثْلِهِ ، وَسَأَلْتُ مُحَمَّدًا فَلَمْ يَعْرِفْهُ ، حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحِيمِ بْنُ حَازِمٍ الْبَلْخِيُّ ، قَال : سَمِعْتُ الْمَكِّيَّ بْنَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، يَقُولُ : كُنَّا عِنْدَ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ الْمَكِّيِّ ، فَجَاءَ سَائِلٌ فَسَأَلَهُ ، فَقَالَ ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ لِخَازِنِهِ : أَعْطِهِ دِينَارًا ، فَقَالَ : مَا عِنْدِي إِلَّا دِينَارٌ إِنْ أَعْطَيْتُهُ لَجُعْتَ وَعِيَالُكَ ، قَالَ : فَغَضِبَ وَقَالَ : أَعْطِهِ ، قَالَ الْمَكِّيُّ : فَنَحْنُ عِنْدَ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ إِذْ جَاءَهُ رَجُلٌ بِكِتَابٍ وَصُرَّةٍ وَقَدْ بَعَثَ إِلَيْهِ بَعْضُ إِخْوَانِهِ ، وَفِي الْكِتَابِ إِنِّي قَدْ بَعَثْتُ خَمْسِينَ دِينَارًا ، قَالَ : فَحَلَّ ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ الصُّرَّةَ : فَعَدَّهَا فَإِذَا هِيَ أَحَدٌ وَخَمْسُونَ دِينَارًا ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ لِخَازِنِهِ : قَدْ أَعْطَيْتَ وَاحِدًا فَرَدَّهُ اللَّهُ عَلَيْكَ وَزَادَكَ خَمْسِينَ دِينَارًا .
´Usamah bin Zaid narrated that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said:` "Whoever some good was done to him, and he says: 'May Allah reward you in goodness' then he has done the most that he can of praise."
Hadith 2107
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْمَخْزُومِيُّ، وَغَيْرُ وَاحِدٍ ، قَالُوا : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ . ح وَحَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا هُشَيْمٌ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ حُسَيْنٍ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ عُثْمَانَ، عَنْ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " لَا يَرِثُ الْمُسْلِمُ الْكَافِرَ ، وَلَا الْكَافِرُ الْمُسْلِمَ " .
´Usamah bin Zaid narrated that the Messenger of Allah(S.A.W) said:` "The Muslim does not inherit from the disbeliever, nor the disbeliever from the Muslim." Another chain reports a similar narration.
Hadith 2107
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، حَدَّثَنَا الزُّهْرِيُّ، نَحْوَهُ ، قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى : وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، وَعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو ، وَهَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ ، هَكَذَا رَوَاهُ مَعْمَرٌ، وَغَيْرُ وَاحِدٍ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، نَحْوَ هَذَا ، وَرَوَى مَالِكٌ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ حُسَيْنٍ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ، عَنْ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَحْوَهُ ، وَحَدِيثُ مَالِكٍ وَهْمٌ ، وَهِمَ فِيهِ مَالِكٌ ، وَقَدْ رَوَاهُ بَعْضُهُمْ عَنْ مَالِكٍ ، فَقَالَ : عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ عُثْمَانَ ، وَأَكْثَرُ أَصْحَابِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالُوا : عَنْ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ ، وَلَدِ عُثْمَانَ ، وَلَا يُعْرَفُ عُمَرُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ ، وَالْعَمَلُ عَلَى هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ عِنْدَ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ ، وَاخْتَلَفَ بَعْضُ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ فِي مِيرَاثِ الْمُرْتَدِّ فَجَعَلَ أَكْثَرُ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَغَيْرِهِمُ الْمَالَ لِوَرَثَتِهِ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ ، وَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ : لَا يَرِثُهُ وَرَثَتُهُ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ ، وَاحْتَجُّوا بِحَدِيثِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَا يَرِثُ الْمُسْلِمُ الْكَافِرَ " وَهُوَ قَوْلُ الشَّافِعِيِّ .
‘With this chain also,’ a similar narration is reported from Usama (may Allah be pleased with him). © Imam Tirmidhi says:
1- This hadith is hasan sahih.
2- Mu‘ammar and several others have narrated a similar hadith from Zuhri; Malik has also narrated a similar hadith with the chain of «عن الزهري عن علي بن حسين عن عمر بن عثمان عن أسامة بن زيد عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم»; there is an error in Malik’s narration, and this error is from Malik himself. Some people, when narrating this hadith from Malik, have said «عن عمرو بن عثمان», while most of Malik’s students have said «مالك عن عمر بن عثمان».
3- And ‘Amr ibn ‘Uthman ibn ‘Affan is well-known; he is among the sons of ‘Uthman, while ‘Umar ibn ‘Uthman is not a well-known person.
4- In this chapter, hadiths have also been reported from Jabir and ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr (may Allah be pleased with them).
5- The people of knowledge act upon this hadith.
6- Some people of knowledge have differed regarding the inheritance of the apostate; most of the people of knowledge among the Companions and others are of the view that his wealth will go to his Muslim heirs.
7- Some people have said: his Muslim heirs will not inherit his wealth. These people have used as evidence the hadith of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) «لا يرث المسلم الكافر», i.e., “A Muslim does not inherit from a disbeliever,” and this is also the view of al-Shafi‘i.

Hadith 2702
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ مُوسَى، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ، أَنَّ أُسَامَةَ بْنَ زَيْدٍ أَخْبَرَهُ : أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " مَرَّ بِمَجْلِسٍ وَفِيهِ أَخْلَاطٌ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَالْيَهُودِ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِمْ " , قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى : هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ .
´Narrated Usamah bin Zaid:` that the Prophet (ﷺ) passed by a gathering in which the Muslims and the Jews were mixed, so he gave the Salam to them.
Hadith 2780
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى الصَّنْعَانِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا الْمُعْتَمِرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ، عَنْ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، وَسَعِيدِ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ نُفَيْلٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " مَا تَرَكْتُ بَعْدِي فِي النَّاسِ فِتْنَةً أَضَرَّ عَلَى الرِّجَالِ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ " ، قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى : هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ ، وَقَدْ رَوَى هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ غَيْرُ وَاحِدٍ مِنَ الثِّقَاتِ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ التَّيْمِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ ، عَنْ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَلَمْ يَذْكُرُوا فِيهِ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ نُفَيْلٍ ، وَلَا نَعْلَمُ أَحَدًا قَالَ : عَنْ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ ، وَسَعِيدُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ غَيْرُ الْمُعْتَمِرِ ، وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ .
´Narrated Usamah bin Zaid, and Sa'eed bin Zaid bin 'Amr bin Nufail:` that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: "I have not left among the people after me, a Fitnah more harmful upon men than women."
Hadith 2780
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ التَّيْمِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ، عَنْ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، نَحْوَهُ .
Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated in the same manner with the chain «سفيان عن سليمان التيمي عن أبي عثمان عن أسامة بن زيد عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم».
Hadith 3769
حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ وَكِيعٍ، وَعَبْدُ بْنُ حميد , قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ الزَّمْعِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ الْمُهَاجِرِ، أَخْبَرَنِي مُسْلِمُ بْنُ أَبِي سَهْلٍ النَّبَّالُ، أَخْبَرَنِي الْحَسَنُ بْنُ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي أَبِي أُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، قَالَ : طَرَقْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ فِي بَعْضِ الْحَاجَةِ ، فَخَرَجَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ مُشْتَمِلٌ عَلَى شَيْءٍ لَا أَدْرِي مَا هُوَ ، فَلَمَّا فَرَغْتُ مِنْ حَاجَتِي ، قُلْتُ : مَا هَذَا الَّذِي أَنْتَ مُشْتَمِلٌ عَلَيْهِ ؟ قَالَ : فَكَشَفَهُ فَإِذَا حَسَنٌ , وَحُسَيْنٌ عَلَى وَرِكَيْهِ , فَقَالَ : " هَذَانِ ابْنَايَ وَابْنَا ابْنَتِيَ ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أُحِبُّهُمَا ، فَأَحِبَّهُمَا ، وَأَحِبَّ مَنْ يُحِبُّهُمَا " . قَالَ : هَذَا حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ .
´Narrated Usamah bin Zaid:` "I came to the Prophet (ﷺ) one night concerning some need, so the Prophet (ﷺ) came out while he was covering up something, and I did not know what it was. Once I had tended to my need, I said: 'What is this that you were covering up?' So he uncovered it, and I found it was Hasan and Husain [peace be upon them] upon his hips. So he said: 'These are my two sons, and the sons of my daughter. O Allah! Indeed, I love them, so love them, and love those who love them.'"
Hadith 3817
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاق، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ السَّبَّاقِ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ : لَمَّا ثَقُلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ هَبَطْتُ وَهَبَطَ النَّاسُ الْمَدِينَةَ ، فَدَخَلْتُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَقَدْ أُصْمَتَ , فَلَمْ يَتَكَلَّمْ ، فَجَعَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَضَعُ يَدَيْهِ عَلَيَّ وَيَرْفَعُهُمَا , فَأَعْرِفُ أَنَّهُ يَدْعُو لِي " . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى : هَذَا حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ .
´Narrated Muhammad bin Usamah bin Zaid:` from his father, that he said: "When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) became weak, I marched and the people marched upon Al-Madinah. I entered upon the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and he was unable to speak (because of weakness), so he did not say anything. So the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) began to place his hands upon me and then raise them up, so I knew he was supplicating for me."
Hadith 3819
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ، حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيل، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي أُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، قَالَ : كُنْتُ جَالِسًا عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذْ جَاءَ عَلِيٌّ , وَالْعَبَّاسُ يَسْتَأْذِنَانِ ، فَقَالَا : يَا أُسَامَةُ اسْتَأْذِنْ لَنَا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ عَلِيٌّ , وَالْعَبَّاسُ يَسْتَأْذِنَانِ ، فَقَالَ : " أَتَدْرِي مَا جَاءَ بِهِمَا ؟ " , قُلْتُ : لَا أَدْرِي ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَكِنِّي أَدْرِي " , فَأَذِنَ لَهُمَا ، فَدَخَلَا فَقَالَا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ جِئْنَاكَ نَسْأَلُكَ أَيُّ أَهْلِكَ أَحَبُّ إِلَيْكَ ؟ قَالَ : " فَاطِمَةُ بِنْتُ مُحَمَّدٍ " ، فَقَالَا : مَا جِئْنَاكَ نَسْأَلُكَ عَنْ أَهْلِكَ ، قَالَ : " أَحَبُّ أَهْلِي إِلَيَّ مَنْ قَدْ أَنْعَمَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ , وَأَنْعَمْتُ عَلَيْهِ أُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ " ، قَالَا : ثُمَّ مَنْ ؟ قَالَ : " ثُمَّ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ " ، قَالَ الْعَبَّاسُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ جَعَلْتَ عَمَّكَ آخِرَهُمْ ، قَالَ : لِأَنَّ عَلِيًّا قَدْ سَبَقَكَ بِالْهِجْرَةِ " . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى : هَذَا حَسَنٌ وَكَانَ شُعْبَةُ يُضَعِّفُ عُمَرَ بْنَ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ .
´Narrated Usamah bin Zaid:` "I was sitting [with the Prophet (ﷺ)] when 'Ali and Al-'Abbas came seeking permission to enter. They said: 'O Usamah, seek permission for us from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ).' So I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, 'Ali and Al-'Abbas seek permission to enter.' He said: 'Do you know what has brought them?' I said: 'No [I do not know].' So the Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'But I know, grant them permission.' So they entered and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, we have come to you, to ask you which of your family is most beloved to you.' He said: 'Fatimah bint Muhammad.' So they said: 'We did not come to ask you about (immediate) family.' He said: 'The most beloved of my family to me is the one whom Allah favored and I favored, Usamah bin Zaid.' They said: 'Then who?' He said: 'Then 'Ali bin Abi Talib.' Al-'Abbas said: 'O Messenger of Allah, you have made your uncle the last of them.' He said: 'Indeed, 'Ali has preceded you in emigration.'"
