بَابُ الْجَمْعِ بَيْنَ الصَّلَاتَيْنِ فِي الْحَضَرِ وَالسَّفَرِ
Chapter on combining two prayers in residence and travel
Muwatta Malik (Yahya) 332 — on combining two prayers in residence
وَحَدَّثَنِي ، عَنْ مَالِك ، أَنَّهُ بَلَغَهُ ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ حُسَيْنٍ ، أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَسِيرَ يَوْمَهُ ، جَمَعَ بَيْنَ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ ، وَإِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَسِيرَ لَيْلَهُ جَمَعَ بَيْنَ الْمَغْرِبِ وَالْعِشَاءِ "
It is narrated from Hazrat Zain ul Abideen that when the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, wished to travel during the day, he would combine Zuhr and Asr prayers, and when he wished to travel at night, he would combine Maghrib and Isha prayers.
