بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي صَلَاةِ اللَّيْلِ

Muwatta Malik (Yahya) 258 — on what is reported regarding night prayer
وَحَدَّثَنِي ، عَنْ وَحَدَّثَنِي ، عَنْ مَالِك ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ ، كَانَ يُصَلِّي مِنَ اللَّيْلِ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ مِنْ آخِرِ اللَّيْلِ أَيْقَظَ أَهْلَهُ لِلصَّلَاةِ يَقُولُ لَهُمْ : " الصَّلَاةَ الصَّلَاةَ ، ثُمَّ يَتْلُو هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ وَأْمُرْ أَهْلَكَ بِالصَّلاةِ وَاصْطَبِرْ عَلَيْهَا لا نَسْأَلُكَ رِزْقًا نَحْنُ نَرْزُقُكَ وَالْعَاقِبَةُ لِلتَّقْوَى سورة طه آية 132 "
It is narrated from Aslam that Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, used to pray at night as much as Allah willed, and when the last part of the night came, he would wake his family for prayer and say to them, "Prayer, prayer!" Then he would recite this verse: "And enjoin prayer upon your family and be steadfast therein. We do not ask you for provision; We provide for you. And the good end is for those who are righteous."
