وَحَدَّثَنِي، عَنْ وَحَدَّثَنِي، عَنْ مَالِك، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ الْمَكِّيِّ : أَنَّ رَجُلًا خَطَبَ إِلَى رَجُلٍ أُخْتَهُ، فَذَكَرَ أَنَّهَا قَدْ كَانَتْ أَحْدَثَتْ فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ فَضَرَبَهُ أَوْ كَادَ يَضْرِبُهُ، ثُمَ قَالَ : " مَا لَكَ وَلِلْخَبَرِ "
It is narrated from Abu Zubair Makki that a man proposed marriage to another man's sister. He stated that the woman was immoral. When this news reached Sayyiduna Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, he summoned that man and beat him or intended to beat him, and said, "What was your purpose in conveying this news?"
