Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 8749M

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that soon you will look for a basin of water in these villages of yours but will not find it; all water will be gathered back to its source, and in Syria the remaining group of the believers and the water will remain.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is sahih.
Identification of narrators: Sufyan is Ibn 'Uyaynah, and al-Mas'udi is 'Abd al-Rahman bin 'Abd Allah bin 'Utbah; he had suffered "ikhtilat" (memory deterioration), but here he has been "corroborated", as will come later. Al-Qasim bin 'Abd al-Rahman is Ibn 'Abd Allah bin Mas'ud.
Reference / Source: It was narrated by Ibn Abi Shaybah (12/190) and Ibn 'Asakir (1/313-314) by the route of Yazid bin Harun; al-Tabarani (8857) by the route of Abu Nu'aym al-Fadl bin Dukayn; and Ibn 'Asakir (1/313) by the route of Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi. All three narrate it from al-Mas'udi, from al-Qasim bin 'Abd al-Rahman, from his grandfather 'Abd Allah bin Mas'ud, as "mursal".
Details of the narration: Ma'mar also narrated it in his "Jami'" (20779), and by his route al-Tabarani (8856), from al-A'mash, from al-Qasim bin 'Abd al-Rahman, as "mursal".
Technical note: He was contradicted by Abu Mu'awiyah (in Nu'aym bin Hammad's "al-Fitan": 1830 and Ibn 'Asakir: 1/314) and Sufyan al-Thawri (in Ya'qub's "al-Ma'rifah wa al-Tarikh": 2/305 and Ibn 'Asakir: 1/314). Both of them narrated it from al-A'mash, from al-Qasim bin 'Abd al-Rahman, from his father, from Ibn Mas'ud, making it "mawsul" (connected).
Note / Clarification: "Yuzwa" means: it will be gathered up and withdrawn.
Note / Clarification: "'Unsur" of anything is its origin. The meaning is that the water will sink into the depths of the earth, and no one will be able to reach it.
