It is narrated from Sayyidah Asma' bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with her) that during the days of turmoil in the time of Sa'id bin al-As, she kept a dagger, which she used to keep under her pillow. She was asked: What will you do with this? She said: If a thief comes in on me (intending harm), I will plunge this dagger into his belly. And she was blind at that time.

Reference / Source: Ibn Sa'd narrated it in "al-Tabaqat" 10/ 241, and Ibn 'Asakir in "Tarikh" 69/ 20, with the chain Yazid bin Harun, from Hammad bin Salamah, from Hisham bin 'Urwah: that Asma' bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with her) kept a dagger during the time of Sa'id bin al-'As for protection against thieves, because at that time thieves had become rampant in Madinah; she used to sleep with it placed under her head.
