It is narrated from Sayyiduna Khuraym bin Fatik (may Allah be pleased with him) that he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "I am Khuraym bin Fatik." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Were it not for two traits in you, you would be a (complete) man." He said: "May my father and mother be sacrificed for you, O Messenger of Allah! What are those two traits?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Your letting your hair grow very long, and your lower garment hanging down (below the ankles)." So Sayyiduna Khuraym (may Allah be pleased with him) went away from there, had his hair cut, and shortened his lower garment.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: So it is (khaslatayn) in the manuscripts, whereas according to the common rule of Arabic it should be "khaslatan" here.
Grading: This hadith is "hasan" on the basis of its other routes, but this particular chain is weak. Technical note / Defect ('illah): No biography could be found for Ibrahim bin Muhammad al-Mas'udi, the father of Yahya. According to Imam Ahmad, al-A'mash did not hear from Shimr bin Atiyyah, and Shimr bin Atiyyah did not live in the time of Khuraym bin Fatik (may Allah be pleased with him). Note / Clarification: Al-Dhahabi called this chain "muzlim" (obscure). Abu Ja'far al-Hadrami is the well-known hadith scholar "Mutayyan". Reference / Source: Imam al-Tabarani recorded it (4159) via Muhammad bin Abd Allah al-Hadrami, with this same chain. Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani (4160) recorded it via al-Husayn bin Mansur al-Raqqi. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Only two people narrated from al-Husayn bin Mansur al-Raqqi, and no declaration of him as trustworthy is reported from anyone other than Imam Ibn Hibban. Note / Clarification: This narration will come later with the author under number (7607) via Abu Ishaq al-Sabi'i from Shimr bin Atiyyah, and its full takhrij will be given there. Reference / Source: Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in all three of his Mu'jams (al-Kabir, al-Awsat and al-Saghir) via Yunus bin Bukayr from al-Mas'udi. Technical note / Defect ('illah): It is not known whether Yunus bin Bukayr heard from al-Mas'udi before or after his memory deteriorated (ikhtilat), so this chain is open to question. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Hushaym bin Bashir named "Samurah bin Fatik" in this narration instead of "Khuraym"; Hushaym is a mudallis, and here he did not state explicitly that he heard it (he used 'an'anah). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: A supporting report is found within the long hadith of Sahl bin al-Hanzaliyyah (may Allah be pleased with him), in which he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What an excellent man Khuraym al-Asadi would be, were it not for his long hair and his letting his lower garment hang down." When Khuraym (may Allah be pleased with him) learned of this, he immediately cut his hair up to his ears with a blade and raised his lower garment to mid-shin. Grading: The chain of this supporting report can possibly be graded "hasan".
