Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 6734

Awn bin Abi Juhayfah narrates from his father (Sayyiduna Abu Juhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him)) that he said: I was with my uncle in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The affair of my Ummah will remain sound and stable until twelve caliphs have passed." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said a word in a lowered voice. I asked my uncle, who was sitting in front of me: "O uncle! What did he (peace and blessings be upon him) say?" He said: "O my son! He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'All of them will be from Quraysh.'"

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In manuscripts (S) and (B) this name was corrupted to "Ya'qub", while the correct name in the text is taken from manuscript (M).

Note / Clarification: In manuscripts (M) and (S) there is a corruption to the word "Umar", and the text was corrected from manuscript (B).

Note / Clarification: The word "amr" had dropped out of manuscripts (M) and (S); we entered it according to manuscript (B).

Grading: This hadith is "sahih li-ghayrihi", and this chain is "hasan" in corroborating chains and supporting reports.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The hadith scholars differ about the narrator Yunus bin Abi Ya'fur; most of them declared him weak, while some others considered him hasan in hadith.
Reference / Source: Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in "al-Mu'jam al-Kabir" (22/308) and "al-Mu'jam al-Awsat" (6211) - and from him Abu Nu'aym al-Asbahani in "Tasmiyat al-Ruwat an Sa'id bin Mansur" (7) - from Muhammad bin Ali al-Sa'igh, from Sa'id bin Mansur, with this same chain.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Tabarani says that only Yunus bin Abi Ya'fur narrated it from Awn bin Abi Juhayfah, and that this hadith is narrated from Abu Juhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) only with this chain.
Reference / Source: Imam al-Bukhari recorded it in "al-Tarikh al-Kabir" (8/410-411), Imam al-Bazzar in his "Musnad" (4230), and Abu al-Shaykh in "Tabaqat al-Muhaddithin bi-Asbahan" (140) - and from him Abu Nu'aym in "Akhbar Asbahan" (2/176) - through various routes from Yunus bin Abi Ya'fur al-Abdi.
Reference / Source: Al-Bazzar (4224) recorded it via Muhammad bin Ubayd, from al-A'mash, from Abu Khalid al-Walibi, from Abu Juhayfah.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Imam al-Bazzar says that no one corroborated Muhammad bin Ubayd in this narration, whereas the other huffaz narrate it with the chain al-A'mash, from Abu Khalid al-Walibi, from Jabir bin Samurah, and this is the correct one.
Note / Clarification: This hadith of Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) has passed shortly before with the author (al-Hakim) under number (6731).
