Umarah bin Ghaziyyah narrates from his father that some young men asked Abu Usayd al-Sa'idi (may Allah be pleased with him) about the preference that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave among the tribes of the Ansar. He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "The best of the households of the Ansar are Banu al-Najjar, then Banu Abd al-Ashhal, then Banu al-Harith bin al-Khazraj, and then Banu Sa'idah; and in all the households of the Ansar there is good." Abu Usayd said (out of love and humility): "If I were one to say anything other than the truth, I would have begun with my own clan, Banu Sa'idah."

Grading: This hadith is "sahih" in origin, but this chain of the author (al-Hakim) is weak because of Ibn Lahi'ah's "su' al-hifz" (poor memory).
Identification of names: Abu 'Abd Allah al-Bushanji is Muhammad bin Ibrahim al-'Abdi.
Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani narrated it in "al-Kabir" (19/ 588) through two routes from Yahya bin 'Abd Allah bin Bukayr with this same chain.

The narration of Ibn Wahb from Ibn Lahi'ah is considered reliable ("salih"). Imam Ahmad (25/ 16049), al-Bukhari (3789, 3807), Muslim (2511/ 177), al-Tirmidhi (3911) and al-Nasa'i (8281) narrated it through the route of Anas bin Malik. Also Imam Ahmad (16050), al-Bukhari (3790), Muslim (2511/ 179) and al-Nasa'i (8282-8284) narrated it through Abu Salamah, and Muslim (2011/ 178) through the route of Ibrahim bin Muhammad bin Talhah; all three of them narrate from Abu Usayd al-Sa'idi.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: In this chapter there are also narrations from Abu Hurayrah, Anas bin Malik and Abu Humayd al-Sa'idi; they can be seen in "Musnad Ahmad" at the hadith of Abu Hurayrah (13/ 7628).
