It is narrated from Abu al-Yasar Ka'b bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was taking the pledge of allegiance from people. I said: "O Messenger of Allah, stretch out your hand so that I may pledge allegiance to you, and set conditions upon me, for you know the conditions best." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I take your pledge that you will worship Allah alone, establish the prayer, pay the zakah, be sincere in goodwill to the Muslims, and separate yourself from the polytheist."
Mention of the virtues of Sayyiduna Mu'attib bin al-Hamra' al-Makhzumi (may Allah be pleased with him).

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: The hadith is sahih in origin, but it is established as the narration of Jarir bin Abd Allah al-Bajali.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The author's chain is weak because of the weakness of Buraydah bin Sufyan; most likely it was this narrator who mistakenly made it the hadith of Abu al-Yasar.
Note / Clarification: The author is alone in reporting this route, and it was not found elsewhere.
Reference / Source: Al-Nasa'i (7752), al-Bayhaqi (9/ 13) and Ibn Abd al-Barr in "al-Tamhid" (16/ 349-350) narrated this hadith with the same wording via Jarir bin Abd al-Hamid, from Mansur bin al-Mu'tamir.
Grading: This chain is sahih, although there is disagreement over the mention of Abu Nukhaylah in it, as explained in "Musnad Ahmad" (31/ 19153).
Reference / Source: This narration is also reported from Jarir bin Abd Allah through other routes, and its basis is in Sahih al-Bukhari (57, 58) and Sahih Muslim (56).
