Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 6194

It is narrated from Urwah that among those of Banu Amr bin Sawad who pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) at al-Aqabah was Abu al-Yasar Ka'b bin Amr bin Abbad bin Amr bin Tamim bin Sawad bin Ghanm bin Ka'b bin Salimah. He was one of the people of Badr, he was present at the Pledge of al-Aqabah, and he is the Companion who took Sayyiduna al-Abbas bin Abd al-Muttalib captive (at the Battle of Badr).

Technical note / Defect ('illah): In the manuscripts, in both places, this name is written "Sawadah" (with a ta' marbutah at the end), which is wrong; the correct name according to the books of biography and genealogy is (Sawad).

Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani narrated it in 'al-Mu'jam al-Kabir' (19/ 366) via Abu 'Ulathah (who is Muhammad bin 'Amr bin Khalid al-Harrani) with this same chain, but the story of the capture of al-'Abbas is not mentioned in it.
Details of the narration: The story of the capture of al-'Abbas is narrated from 'Abdullah bin 'Abbas through several routes; see "Musnad Ahmad" (5/ 3310).
