Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 6099

It is narrated from Muhammad bin Umar (al-Waqidi) that the kunyah of Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) was Abu Nujayd. He, his father and his sister were among the early Muslims. He took part in several military expeditions with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He stayed for a period in the lands of his people, then moved to Basrah and passed away there, and his descendants also live there. He died in Basrah one year before the death of Ziyad, and Ziyad died in the year 55 AH.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Important point: The correct word is "Juraybah" (with dammah on the jim and fathah on the ra'), and its nisbah is "al-Juraybi", which is a branch of the Salul of the tribe of Khuza'ah.
Note / Clarification: Al-Sam'ani vocalized it thus in "al-Ansab", as did Ibn al-Athir in "al-Lubab" (1/ 275) and Ibn Nasir al-Din in "Tawdih al-Mushtabih" (3/ 416). In other sources this name is found in various spellings such as "Hudhayfah", "Khuraybah", "Haribah" and "Khuzaymah", which shows inconsistency. In our manuscripts it is written "Hurmah", which is a distortion by the copyists.

Note / Clarification: In manuscripts (S) and (M) it is written "wa-ibnuhu" (and his son) instead of "wa-abuhu", but the correct reading is what we have established according to manuscripts (Z), (B) and the sources of takhrij (that is, "wa-abuhu" (and his father)).

Important point: Muhammad bin 'Umar refers to al-Waqidi. This biography of 'Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) was reported by Ibn Sa'd in "al-Tabaqat" (9/ 9) and by Imam al-Tabarani in "al-Kabir" (18/ 185) through the route of Ibn Sa'd from al-Waqidi.
Reference / Source: Abu Nu'aym, Ibn Abd al-Barr and Ibn al-Athir also mentioned it without a chain. It is not found in these sources that he died a year before Ziyad; rather, some of them mention the year 52 or 53 AH.
Reference / Source: His death a year before Ziyad was mentioned by al-Kalabadhi in "al-Hidayah wa al-Irshad" (902) and Abu al-Walid al-Baji in "al-Ta'dil wa al-Tajrih" (1159).
