Yazid bin Ruman states that Amir bin Rabi'ah (may Allah be pleased with him) was among the early Muslims; he accepted Islam even before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) entered the House of al-Arqam and began calling (people to Islam) there. Amir bin Rabi'ah (may Allah be pleased with him) made both emigrations to Abyssinia, and with him was his wife Layla bint Abi Hathmah al-Adawiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her), the sister of Sulayman bin Abi Hathmah. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) established brotherhood (mu'akhat) between Amir bin Rabi'ah and Yazid bin al-Mundhir bin Sarh al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with them both). The kunyah of Amir bin Rabi'ah (may Allah be pleased with him) was Abu Abdullah. He took part in the battles of Badr, Uhud, al-Khandaq and all the battles alongside the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He died after the martyrdom of Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him). He had confined himself to his house, and people only came to know of his death when his funeral was brought out.

Technical note / Defect ('illah): (2) Muhammad bin 'Umar al-Waqidi has been contradicted regarding the date of 'Amir bin Rabi'ah's death. His statement implies that 'Amir died in the year thirty-five (35) AH, whereas the statement of Mus'ab al-Zubayri (in Abu Nu'aym's "Ma'rifat al-Sahabah" 5147 and Ibn 'Asakir 25/ 328) and the statement of Sa'id bin Kathir bin 'Ufayr (which comes ahead at no. 5634) contradict it, saying that he died in the year thirty-two (32) AH. This is also the view of Abu 'Ubayd al-Qasim bin Sallam (as in Ibn 'Asakir 25/ 329). And Abu al-Hasan al-Mada'ini said (as Ibn Zabr al-Raba'i transmitted in "Mawlid al-'Ulama' wa Wafayatuhum" 1/ 122) that he died in the year thirty-three (33) AH. 3/ 290. Reference / Source: We say: this is the view of Khalifah in his "Tarikh" p. 168 and of Ibn Hibban in "al-Thiqat" 3/ 290.
