أخبرنا الشيخ أبو بكر بن إسحاق، أخبرنا إسماعيل بن قُتيبة، حَدَّثَنَا محمد بن عبد الله بن نُمير، قال: أبو عَبْس عبد الله بن جَبْر بن عمرو بن زيد الأنصاري وكعبُ الأحبارِ ماتا في سنة ثلاثٍ وثلاثين (2).
Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Numayr states that Abu Abs Abdullah bin Jabr bin Amr bin Zayd al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) and Ka'b al-Ahbar passed away in the year thirty-three (33) AH.

(2) هذا يخالف قول سائر علماء الرجال في وفاة أبي عَبْس، حيث ذكروا وفاته سنة أربع وثلاثين، منهم خليفة بن خياط في "طبقاته" ص 79، وابن قتيبة في "المعارف" ص 326، وأبو الحسن المدائني كما حكاه عنه ابن أبي خيثمة في السفر الثاني من "تاريخه" (1246)، وإبراهيم بن المنذر كما سيأتي عند المصنّف بعده، ونقله الواقدي كما سيأتي برقم (5587) عن عبد الحميد بن أبي عَبْس من ولد أبي عَبْس بن جَبر.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): This statement contradicts the statements of all the other scholars of narrators regarding the death of Abu 'Abs, since they gave the year of his death as 34 AH.
Reference / Source: Among these scholars are Khalifah bin Khayyat (Tabaqat, p. 79), Ibn Qutaybah (al-Ma'arif, p. 326) and Abu al-Hasan al-Mada'ini (as Ibn Abi Khaythamah transmitted in the second part of his Tarikh, no. 1246). Likewise Ibrahim bin al-Mundhir, and al-Waqidi (ahead at no. 5587), who transmitted the same via Abd al-Hamid bin Abi 'Abs, one of the descendants of Abu 'Abs bin Jabr.
