It is narrated from Ibn Sirin that Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) wrote (to his governors): "Do not appoint al-Bara' bin Malik as commander (general) of any army of the Muslims, for he (in the matter of bravery) is one of the perils; he plunges ahead with the people (into such risks where there is fear of destruction). (That is, he is utterly fearless and extremely daring, and because of this very boldness he leads the army into very dangerous campaigns.)"

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: (2) The one who said "dhukira" (it was mentioned) is "Muhammad bin Umar al-Waqidi". Technical note / Defect ('illah): Ibn Sa'd narrated this statement with a chain from Ibn Sirin (Muhammad) in his "al-Tabaqat" (4/ 330 and 9/ 16), from Amr bin Asim al-Kilabi, from Muhammad bin Amr, from Muhammad bin Sirin. This Muhammad bin Amr (Ibn Ubayd al-Waqifi, Abu Sahl) is "da'if" (weak), and Ibn Sirin did not live in the time of Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him).
