أخبرنا الحسن بن محمد الإسْفَرايِني، حدثنا محمد بن أحمد بن البَرَاء، حدثنا علي بن المَدِيني، حدثنا محمد بن بِشر، سمعتُ إسماعيل بن أبي خالد يَذكُر عن قيس، عن (2) مُدرِك بن عَوف الأحمَسي، قال: مررتُ ببلالٍ وهو في المسجدِ، فقلت: يا أبا عبد الله، ما يُجلِسُك؟ فقال: أَنتظِرُ طُلوعَ الشمسِ (3).
Mudrik bin Awf al-Ahmasi said: I passed by Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was in the mosque, and I asked: "O Abu Abdullah! Why are you sitting here?" He said: "I am waiting for the sun to rise."

(2) تحرَّف في النسخ الخطية إلى: بن، وإنما يرويه قيس بن أبي حازم عن مدرك بن عوف، كما في مصادر تخريج الخبر.
Note / Clarification: (2) In the manuscripts this was corrupted to "bin" (perhaps making it part of the name), whereas Qays bin Abi Hazim narrates it from "Mudrik bin 'Awf", as in the sources that record the report.
(3) إسناده حسن من أجل مدرك بن عوف الأحمسي، فهو تابعي كبير روى عن عمر بن الخطاب وجالسَه ووثقه العجلي وابن حبان، وصحَّح إسنادَ خبره هذا ابن حجر في "نتائج الأفكار" 2/ 443.
Grading: (3) Its chain is "hasan" because of "Mudrik bin 'Awf al-Ahmasi".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): He is one of the senior Successors (tabi'in); he narrated from 'Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) and sat in his company. Al-'Ijli and Ibn Hibban declared him trustworthy (thiqah). Ibn Hajar declared the chain of this report of his "sahih" in "Nata'ij al-Afkar" (2/ 443).
وأخرجه ابن أبي شيبة في "المصنف" 9/ 37، وفي "الأدب" (154)، والطبراني في "الكبير" (1014)، وابن حجر في "نتائج الأفكار" 2/ 443 من طريقين عن محمد بن بشر، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Ibn Abi Shaybah recorded it in "al-Musannaf" (9/ 37) and "al-Adab" (154), al-Tabarani in "al-Mu'jam al-Kabir" (1014) and Ibn Hajar in "Nata'ij al-Afkar" (2/ 443), through two routes from Muhammad bin Bishr, with this chain.
