حدثنا علي بن حَمْشَاذَ العَدْل، حدثنا العبّاس بن الفضل الأَسْفاطي، حدثنا إسماعيل بن أبي أُوَيس، عن سليمان بن بلال، عن هشام بن عُرْوة، عن أبيه، عن عائشة، عن عمر، قال: كان أبو بكر سيِّدَنا وخيرَنا، وأحبَّنا إلى رسول الله ﷺ (1). صحيح على شرطهما، ولم يُخرجاه!

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: Abu Bakr was our leader, the best of us, and the most beloved of us to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs, but they did not record it.

(1) حديث صحيح، وهذا إسناد حسن من أجل إسماعيل بن أبي أُويس - وهو إسماعيل بن عبد الله بن عبد الله الأصبحي - وقد تابعه أخوه أبو بكر عند ابن سعد 2/ 235، وهو ثقة.
Grading: The hadith is sahih, and this chain is "hasan" because of Isma'il bin Abi Uways (Isma'il bin 'Abd Allah bin 'Abd Allah al-Asbahi).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: His brother Abu Bakr (Ibn Sa'd 2/ 235) corroborated him, and he is trustworthy (thiqah).
وأخرجه البخاري (3667)، والترمذي (3656) من طريق إسماعيل بن أبي أويس بهذا الإسناد. ورواية البخاري ضمن الحديث الطويل في بيعة أبي بكر الصِّدِّيق بالسَّقيفة. فاستدراك الحاكم له ذهولٌ منه.
Reference / Source: Al-Bukhari (3667) and al-Tirmidhi (3656) recorded it via Isma'il bin Abi Uways with this same chain. Al-Bukhari's narration is part of the long hadith about the pledge of allegiance to Abu Bakr al-Siddiq at the Saqifah.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): So al-Hakim's including it (in the Mustadrak) is an oversight (dhuhul) on his part.
