Musnad Ishaq bin Rahwayh 74 — Those who speak about destiny; a servant
اَخْبَرَنَا وَقَالَ الزُّہْرِیُّ: لَقِیَ اِبْلِیْسُ عِیْسَی بْنَ مَرْیَمَ، فَذَکَرَ مِثلَہٗ، وَقَالَ: قَالَ عِیْسَی لَہٗ: اِنَّ الْعَبْدَ لَا یَبْتَلِی رَبَّہٗ، وَلٰکِنَّ اللّٰہَ یَبْتَلِی عَبْدَہٗ، فَخَصَمَہٗ.
Az-Zuhri, may Allah have mercy on him, narrated: Iblis met ‘Isa ibn Maryam, peace be upon him, and he mentioned the same example. And he narrated that ‘Isa, peace be upon him, said to him: A servant cannot test his Lord, but Allah can test His servant. Then they debated and discussed with each other.
