Musnad Imam Shafi'i 518 — when rain would descend, the Prophet ﷺ would
أَخْبَرَنَا الشَّافِعِيُّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي خَالِدُ بْنُ رَبَاحٍ، عَنِ الْمُطَّلِبِ بْنِ حَنْطَبٍ: أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَقُولُ عِنْدَ الْمَطَرِ: "اللَّهُمَّ سُقْيَا رَحْمَةٍ، وَلَا سُقْيَا عَذَابٍ وَلَا بَلَاءٍ وَلَا هَدْمٍ وَلَا غَرَقٍ، اللَّهُمَّ عَلَى الظِّرَابِ وَمَنَابِتِ الشَّجَرِ، اللَّهُمَّ حَوَالَيْنَا وَلَا عَلَيْنَا" .
It is narrated from Matlub bin Hantab that when rain would descend, the Prophet ﷺ would supplicate: "O Allah, (send) rain of mercy, not of punishment, nor of trial, nor rain that destroys homes, nor rain that drowns. O Allah, (send rain) on the mountains and in the gardens. O Allah, send rain around us, not upon us."
